coln72 Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Known of a few people that put washing powder down the intake to help bed in the rings. One of these ran at Bathurst. Quote
7shades Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 I've heard of a similar technique for decarbonising and deglazing of bores which involves dry 1200 grit cutting compound.... Quote

philbey Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 I knew a bloke who used cigarette paper to pack out the thrashed out big end caps on his 202 to bring them back into tolerance for his new bearing shells! Cigarette paper is waxed so it doesnt absorb oil! Golden. Quote
orangeLJ Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Known of a few people that put washing powder down the intake to help bed in the rings. One of these ran at Bathurst. Yup, ajax down the inlets. Its ok for a quick fix like bedding in the rings at bathurst (from memory it was in the old monaros), we used it to stop a friends 308 from using as much oil on the way back from a long trip, was enough to roughen the bores and stop the smoking till he got home to rebuild it. but all it does in the end is put vertical scores in the bores (hey i can rhyme!) and isnt great for longevity of the engine for obvious reasons. The cigarette paper is a new one! Quote
