hey lads I'm doing up my 4k and i need to find out which of the blocks in the "How to build a tough k motor" forum, and ive got this paragraph from it>

There are also two different types of 4K block, one has three very noticeable ribs below the manifold side welsch plugs, just like a 3K if you can have a look at one. The other has small ribs and a large flat area. The unribbed block is far weaker, if you have one of them, scrap it.

any ways before i go further can anyone tell me that if my block is this ribbed stronger block or not???

springersrolla, you have the ribbed 4k block.

Attached is a pic of the earlier block with less reinforcement. Think it is a ke55 4k block.

Think this pic was originally from superjamie.

I don't get it...

Where's the ribs on springersrolla's block??

look at the two blocks side by side, one has ribs running from the welsh plugs up to the deck, the other has those ribs, plus ribs between the welsh plugs...

ahh ok I think I see it now, but in the faq it said that the ribs are "below the manifold side welsch plugs" but I guess who ever wrote that meant below the manifold but above the welsch plugs??

probably not, they tend to get a bit harmonic and crack further up around the top of the block don't they?

I'm not sure, just thought i remembered reading it...

checked and found both my cars have the ribbed engines... yay

anybody know if the ribbed blocks are less prone to cracking over 8500 compared to unribbed blocks?

There used to be a bloke in Victoria who was well known for building screamer 4K's. He used to play "dot to dot" with the welsh plugs on the un-ribbed blocks.
