OniBerserker Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 in the process of swapping struts in my ke70 got a bit stuck i have the strut out of the car, just can't manage to undo the shock ( the top bolt that holds the head of the shock) any suggestions? Quote
Redwarf Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Are you talking about the nut that hold the strut top to the shaft? Quote

Medicine_Man Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Make sure you use spring compressors unless you want the strut top to rip through your head and take it clean off.. You will need a rattle gun to undo it.. Quote

toyota_ae71 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 done this soooo many times, you DO NOT need a rattle gun. Firstly mount the spring compressors opposite each other on the spring, Then put the strut into the vice horizontily and firmly put the vicegrips on to the strut top. Get somone to hold the vice grips or if your vice isn't too high lean them up againt the table that the vice is mounted to. Then get your trusty breaker bar or ratchet with about a meter of exhaust tube or something for extra leverage. Then WOLA... works for me everytime. :P Quote

The top hat hardly pops off the top when undone. If the strut is out the car, the spring is only just captive and under hardly any pressure so it wont fly off when undone. Ive even managed to put struts back together without spring compressors. Quote

HAHA yeah i wasted my $40 on spring compressors just to get my standards out, i replaced them with cut ef's... uncaptiveness, before anyone says anything they are in my rally car very well zipp tied in :P Quote
SLW42 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 it alot different with bigger struts that are under more stress like a commondore or falcdog srings!!! Quote
OniBerserker Posted February 22, 2009 Author Report Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) got it spring compressor's hooked up cabletied a set of multigrips to the strut top stood on multigrips used my big torque wrench and a big roll of cardboard as a breaker bar :P Edited February 22, 2009 by OniBerserker Quote
OniBerserker Posted February 22, 2009 Author Report Posted February 22, 2009 hit another bump steering arm doesn't want to come off tried spraying it with wd40 then did what gregory's book said. put a support under one side of the eye and hit the other side repeatedly to break loose but nothing... think i might need a bigger hammer Quote
Medicine_Man Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Hit the steering arm really hard side on, the shock will force it to come apart.. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I always get stuck with steering arms. Have to get my boss to do it for me every time :) I think I need to go to a gym. Quote
