toyota_ae71 Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 yeah I'm alright at welding... if i get stuck i have a couple of engineers I'm friends with close by. from what i have been thinking, a vn-vs damaged commodore goes for around $200-$800 so if i bought a complete car and just throw it all into the kesev id be pretty much set, even a diff if the standard locked borgie can't take it. Thats 140ish killawasps pretty cheap. I'm ONLY considering doing the v6 conversion as i have heard that it wasn't very heavy for a v6, as its all alloy. Quote
KE ping it real Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I'm pretty sure you would need a newer version then a vs as the earlier engines wernt alloy only the newer alloytec I could be wrong Quote
curly Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 same weight? not even close VN executive weighs 1310kg ke70 1000kg by the time you change everything over it will be very close, v6 is cast iron inc heads 2 valve per cyl, not my pick for a race car engine Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I'm pretty sure you would need a newer version then a vs as the earlier engines wernt alloy only the newer alloytec I could be wrong VZ was the first of the Alloytec engines (GM High Feature engine, all alloy), the old nail cast-iron pushrod 3800 came in three different guises before then too, LN3 (VN series 1), L27 (VNII-VR) and then the vastly different Ecotec L36 (VS-VY). orangeLJ Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Ecotec ran alloy heads, the block was still cast. The new "alloytech" is all alloy (as the name says hey!) If you are running on dirt, you are going to need to weigh up how much power you can get to the ground, not to mention the pain in the arse of finding a decent running V6 manual to swap over (99% of the cheap engine/trans packages would be autos) The V6s arent exactly the biggest boat anchors, they aren't light, but fab some engine mounts to mount it as low and as far back as possible, and I don't see why it would be a massive drama for handling. 308_rolla Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 you would be able to make this handle trust me i have a ke70 with a holden 308 in it and we got it to handle like a go kart we could keep up with a mild wrx keeping in mind we have no spent bix buxs on anything :D Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 3tc with a mild cam, weber, and extractors Would be heaps better then a 4k imo Quote
orangeLJ Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 in here- http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=27605 there is a weight figure somewhere, but it basically said that the V6 didnt weigh as much as first thought. Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted February 21, 2009 Author Report Posted February 21, 2009 (edited) Thanks a HEAP for all of your info people. So ive been searching around, vn series 2 sounds like the way to go. Theres a ke70 on ebay at the moment with a series 1 or 2 auto in it. Also seeing as tho the commodore and falcon manual gearboxes are both "t5's" does anyone know if it's possible to get a falcon t5 and change the bell housing to a commodore one?? A mate has 2 or 3 manual EA to ED falcons at his place. Also found a v6 powered ke70 "track car" on youtube that seems to steer pretty good.
