Hey, so ive got a ke70 thats powered by a briggs and stratton motor... the good ol 4k.

I'm looking for wayy more power but on a tight budget. Soooo i've been think about either an el or ef xr6 motor converted back to carby (830mm long) or the most common conversion... a v6 ecotec out of a v-series commonwhore (550mm long).

NOW before you go saying its going to be front heavy and will prob steer like a hat full of arseholes, its only a club car so it won't need the money thown into it to get registered. So i don't wanna hear any of that as ive already figured that out.

So what does everyone think??

Cheers Corey

I think you're swatting a fly with an axe.

With weight and balance issues + extra Hp, I would actually stand-up and say that it'll be slower than the 4K for dirt applications. I've seen it before, more than once.

do you have conform to the club rules? you could strip the dash right out and recess the firewall box style, this would mean you could shift a motor back atleast 200mm further than what you normally would be able to

yeah your probably right.... its only a club car and i'll prob try the occaisional winton run, I'm not looking to come first, just fun.

Ive heard that the v6 commo engine is no MORE than 120kgs over a 4k. And our club dosn't really have rules against that kind of stuff that i have heard anyway. And as "sam_Q" said i could recess the firewall if i had to.

thought you said you were on a budget mate? how much you think an xr6 motor is gonna cost to start with?

unless you can weld well enough to make, firewall mods (if its only for club at least move the v6 back), custom tailshaft, custom engine mounts, custom everything else! its gonna be VERY expensive.

and a v6 on carby? prolly easier just to wire up the efi. your gonna need some pretty expensive carbys to get it running well, and then you gota pay for someone to tune them...and thats not cheap either.

and 120kgs is a whole lot more than you think. stocko ke70 is like 1000kg, so your looking at adding an aditional 10%+ to the car (since i think ke is less than 1000kg but will use it to be safe). though i think youll find a bare xr6 motor will prolly fall into the 100-120kg mark (not aditional) so thats prolly an aditional 60kg or something over a 4k.

v6 is a better choice than a v8 as its shorter and you can get most of it positioned nicely, but still.....for all that effort, prolly just better to get a 4agze or something.

but yeah as you asked for my oppion i think a v6 is a bad choice, the good thing about these light corollas is exactly that...light and nimble, i think a chunky v6 will be detromental unfortunately especaily if you intend on using it for rally sport which requires a stack of car control. if it was a burnout car id say go for it. but id say put in a v8 then!

good luck on whatever you do though. and post pics too.

el-ef xr6 motors are quite cheap + my mate has one in his shop that he would sell for nothing. ford xr series are ALL straight 6's and i said carby because its easier to work with and a 500 holley would cover it pretty well. And its always being done for speedway so it must work pretty well.

I'm open for suggestions, but in my eyes a 4ag(z)e, ca18 or even sr20 are always going to be costing money.

I would LOVE to stay with k-series but for the amount of money you put into them they just don't go hard enough unless boosted :bash:

there's always the 18rg,2tg,3tc or possibly fj20, but because they are getting too old/rare its hard to find parts for them.

If there's an engine thats cheap, parts are easily available and around the 100kw mark at the flywheel... please tell me!

Hence why i said the ecotec v6

Ive said it before, Ill say it again. Just because you have a motor lying around, is no reason to put it into a corolla.

The v6 is the smarter option, compared to the straight six. f you use a 3.8 v6 its now perfectly legal for road use if you upgrade everything else, and are willing to go through engineering, thanks to the new national code of practice.

With that said, I don't believe its a good plan. If your doing motorkhanas, rallys and whatnot, Id be doing the SR20 thing. I think it would cost less than a straight six ford conversion. I don't particularly like the SR, but lets face it, the KE corolla series is meant to have an inline 4. That's what its designed for. The SR20 is a motor with a proven history of making good power and being tunable. Performance parts and upgrades are as cheap as chips. There's probably 20 of them on here at least so theres a lot of knowledge already out there.

Sell the ford motor and get a dirty Nissan. I cannot believe I just said get a Nissan motor. I'm going to bed...

You know its not good to go to bed after thinking about something bad, Now you will be dreaming about nissan engines all night :bash:

I don't think you will have fun with a poorly handling car. I know I don't. I would far prefer to take 100hp less to the track than drive a car that's pig headed and wont do what its asked. Its stressful, frustrating and definitely not fun.

you,ve got a 1000kg corolla, gonna x the weight of the motor gearbox and diff by 2.5 approx so your going to end up with a ke 70 that weighs 1200kg. Sounds a lot easier to gut a vr commodore = same weight, cost nothing, when you crash it just go get another one, save a good corolla

Buy a crashed v6 manual camry, gut and cut the arse end of the corolla, drop in the whole drive train, weld/fabricate = grunty mid engined rear wheel drive all toyota that handles, just kidding (sort of)
