Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 hmm thats gettin awfully close to the sc12s limits there..... Quote
ae86levint Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 thats fine as long as u don't want any top end power at all :D Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 thats a rather broad and brave statement nick..... theres different types of s/c for different applications.... tuning for peak hp is doable.... centrifugal s/c for example Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 The Mini is supercharged, and it bloody well hauls. Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Centrifugal superchargers run off the exhaust Umm... No they don't. Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 And here's more: A centrifugal supercharger optimized for max top-end boost and power usually won't build low-end boost as quickly as a rotor blower. While the rotor blower builds boost early and maintains it as rpm increases, a centrifugal blower builds boost exponentially--in other words, doubling the blower's rotational rpm causes the boost to quadruple. demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Here's more supercharger reading There's also info about centrifugal superchargers and roots superchargers there. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 thatll be casue they are often over looked, and kits are still not cheap outside of japan. very very popular on mustangs in the states (centrifugal type) huge power! Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Plus it's easier and cheaper to change the boost on a turbo - just bleed the wastegate or install a boost controller. On a supercharger you'll need to change pulleys and gears and stuff, which quickly goes into the "too hard basket". Quote
Jason Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 (edited) Ill be happy with a S/Ced first car :D btw how come you can't put in a boost controller? Edited April 21, 2005 by Jason Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Umm. Well superchargers are run off the pulley mechanically. I suppose that website did mention that they now have intake bypass systems (I was not aware of this previously), so you can set the supercharger up to reach full boost a lot earlier, while not overboosting towards the top of the rev range. With one of these I suppose you can put in a boost controller of some sort of adjust when it starts to bypass? Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 well the bypass is a boost controller..... i don't see why you could make one work on a switch to open earlier or later acording to what you want Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 (edited) you've never seen a centrifugal blower? dude, come to lismore! the "big mod" down here is to buy a crappy old VR ute and put a CAPA kit on it worth as much as the whole car! you have to have a big frontmount hanging out the front bar tho (doesn't matter if it's hooked up or not) and you have to tension the blower belt REALLY tight so you can hear the whine from 2 blocks away, so everyone in the ampol carpark says "he must have a supercharged vehicle. fully sick. bro." :D Edited April 21, 2005 by Super Jamie Quote
