Redwarf Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) This is the only digital shot of my old house. It had trees across the front, and the house was in the open. If you look at the circular driveway in the top left corner, that's where it used to be. There used to be an old church at the end of the road. It was a tiny wooden thing built in the 1920's. Bottom two photos courtesy of news.com.au I'm having serious issue coming to grips with the town not being there anymore. Edited February 9, 2009 by Redwarf Quote
SoulSearcher Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I didn't originally know of the total devastation that the fires brought, the people who have been affected, who have lost houses, cars, everything, even the the ones who were lucky enough to escape with minimal damage, our thoughts are with you in what must be a heartbreaking, heart wrenching, horrifying ordeal. Here in Adelaide, we have got about 40 families donating clothing and shoes, anything that we think the families could use. If you're in the hills, you can drop off at Littlehampton Clay Bricks and Pavers, (in Littlehampton) on TUESDAY 10th February and I think it's going to wayville and then onto victoria. Quote
Jason Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 This whole thing just seems unreal. Glad to hear friends and family are ok. Quote
Tume Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 The arsonist who started this won't survive if he/she is found out by the public. All it takes is one person who has lost everything in this to take justice into their own hands. Although I can't honestly say they wouldn't be doing a favour to everyone. There was a number where people could donate money for the victim's of this fire. Was around $12 million this morning. Try to hunt down the number for you. Quote
kangaroosa Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) I heard on the radio from the cheif commisioner of police, that the penalty for starting bushfires can carry a sentence of 15-20 years of imprisonment. That sentence may be longer factoring in other related charges. Its also not easy to charge the arsonist with the murder of the 170 odd people that have been declared dead (so far) as it would be very difficult to prove that their main intent was to kill. Lesser charges of Manslaughter are more likely to be persued. Profilers also believe that the majority of bush arsonists are people under the age of 18. Its been revealed that the Marysville, Yarra Glen and Gippsland fires are the work of an arsonist. Edited February 10, 2009 by kangaroosa Quote
coln72 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Don't hold your breath waiting for someone to be charged with arson as unless the person is caught with the lit match in their hand it can not be proven. Quote
Tume Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I'm more thinking that someone won't be charged for the arson. More of someone will try and seek vengence for the arson and loss of their family. Hope its not so but still. Quote
Raven Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Hmm, not cool. Death toll stands at 181 now  I suggest some of you, if not all of you, get some old clothing together and go and donate it. Quote
Johno Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 It makes me so sad to hear the small township of Marysville has been burnt to the ground. It was such a lovely little town. There was times that my girlfriend and I would go away camping for the weekend and always stop in at a bakehouse/café' on the corner and have a cooked bacon and egg breakfast. The thing that makes me sad is to hear Bruno's garden has gone too. All carvings he did by hand over the years and now its all gone. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2581996/Brunos-A...culpture-Garden With all the fires we are getting one one side of the country and Floods on the other i just couldn't go past this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T35WXFOmwI...feature=related My condolences go out to all the family's who have lost love ones. I can't begin to imagine what it would fell like to loose your house all all your belongings not to mention loved ones. My thoughts go out to you. Quote
Johno Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I just remembered, If you shop at Coles supermarket go there on Friday. They are donating all their profits to support The Red Cross. http://www.thirdontheright.com/2009/02/on-...s-how-very.html Quote
Lexxi[ke35] Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I was watching it on the news last night and I was like "I wonder what the people who started it are thinking right now? How would they feel?" Are they enjoying it? Or are they sitting there trying to find some way to help to fix it? Who knows what their mentality is like, they could be doing anything right now. My love and condolences go out to everyone who has been deeply affected by this tragedy, and I'm so amazed at how much money and clothes etc have been donated. Hopefully soon it'll be enough to get these people back on their feet. Quote
JiP Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 I wouldn't be suprised if the culprate was caught in the fire. Quote
Lexxi[ke35] Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Yeah that's probably true ayy. Lets hope so. Quote
JiP Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Well I just heard this on the news. Seems there are people lighting fresh fires... You'd think that they would have a brain and realise what damage this is doing!! Quote
