p0rt Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I'm just about to change the headgasket on my KE55 corolla 4door tomorrow, we have the torque settings and the sequence settings, but see'ing as you guys are the experts, any tricks to these, is it harder then normal motor, does it run pushrods? lol. potentially silly questions maybe, but any heads up on what to do/what not to do is helpful, never changed one on a rolla before, Cheers in advance! SLO-030 Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) I just did my new head gasket for the first time on the new 4k. nothing much to look out for. just make sure you clean the head up (if any of the old gasket sticks to the head or the block) and don't rest the head on its mating surface :P . what brand head gasket are ya using? and yes, it does run pushrods. p0rt Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks for the heads up, i think its a protorque? $20 special! hahah. moving right along... My mate has done at least 20 headgaskets on various cars, just no k motors, thanks again for that mate:) Quote

Just a tip, run the head bolt down into the threads into the block to make sure its not stiff, it could cause inaccurate torquing. also a drop of oil on the threads and under the head of the bolt will give you more accurate torquing :P Quote
ke30Rolla myles Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 hey mate the k engine is to so so easy to chage the head gasket i cna do it in 30 mins i recon just tack the air cleaner box off, undo manifold, take the rocker cover off undo the 12 bolts then boom its off. the only hard thing is getting it back on because of the push rods have to go intt the lil slots its easyer with 2 people. remember to clean the head heaps good and look if its warped... hope that helped. thanks myles Quote
p0rt Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 Very much so, was wondering if those pushrods were going to be any trouble, sounds easy! theres 2 of us doing it, shouldnt be a prob, thanks again :P Quote

p0rt Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 Quick question, is there a cooling system drain plug on the block somewhere on these motors? i can't workout which one if there is  Quote
DearmanKE Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 don't think there is,just disconnect ur main hoses, flush out radiator with high pressure water, then take thermostat out of motor n flush the block aswell remember to locate jiggle valve in thermostat upon reassembly, and to use a new gasket for thermostat houseing Quote
OniBerserker Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) coolant drain plug is just under the engine fan Edited February 7, 2009 by OniBerserker Quote
p0rt Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 lol cheers, all done now, just re-assembling now:) Quote
p0rt Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 Out of curiousity, whats the difference between a 4K and a 4K-C motor? i took some pics of the block and the head after removal, it seems some water jackets on block arent on the head, maybe its off a different rolla engine, ill post the pics up this evening, my poor laptop is getting oil'd and greased, as i type  Quote
p0rt Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 New question, motor is all back together but its running a bit rough, popping along, and splurting a bit... cancel that, my mate has just discovered that the dizzy cap, has been put on backwards.. since BEFORE i bought it.. wtf. i need to know how to do that valve clearances, and whats the sequance, sorry to be a pest guys Quote
