Gribble Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I picked up a 5k on the weekend that has the numbers cast 24010-211, which isnt on the FAQ but seem to be close to the 3k bigport head. It doesnt have the protrusions from 1 and 4 plug holes either. Does anyone know what that casting means? For the moment ill just assume its a 3k bigport head. I will be pulling the motor down next week anyway because it has a bit of blowby and could do with a build anyway by the sound of it. Ill keep you all posted on what I find, but in the meantime does anyone know FOR CERTAIN what the numbers mean? Thanks guys! Quote
philbey Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Is it a flat head with only a very shallow kidney shaped combustion chamber? Is there a 4 sided blanking plate on the back of it with 4 bolts to hold it on? pics will help. Quote
Felix Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 It is a 3K bigport head. It will have a welschplug on the back of the head. Heads with prefix 22010 are K bigport (from earlier ke1x). These have smaller valves than all later heads. 24010 3k bigport (late ke1x-ke2x). Hopefully your motor has been built with shallow dish pistons, otherwise it will have a low compression ratio. I would CC the head and pistons to work out the true compression ratio while you have it apart. Quote
philbey Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) My 5k head volume came in at about 18cc. Edited February 3, 2009 by philbey Quote
Gribble Posted February 3, 2009 Author Report Posted February 3, 2009 I havent split the motor up just yet, but having gone through some of the extra parts that came with the motor there is a 5k head, dished pistons, a factory cam and distributor. So I'm guessing those parts have been replaced by the 3k head, flat top or "less dished" pistons, electronic dizzy (motor has it fitted) and an aftermarket cam of some description. Motor comes apart this weekend for rebuild, I keep you guys posted. (ps, the motor came with twin 40dcoe's and manifold as well. :P ) Quote
Gribble Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 3k bigport head, double valve springs, very shallow dished ACL pistons, aftermarket cam, double row timing chain, ACL bearings, solid lifters. Bores are pretty glazed up, everything else measures up good. Head and motor are clean as a preachers sheets on the inside. Hopefuly just a hone and some new rings and it will be going hard. :D Quote

Felix Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 With those ACL pistons, what is the volume (cc's) of the piston dish? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 6cc, compared to 22c for the Toyota "D-dish" stock piston. Quote
Gribble Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 PICTURES! (I just built one as well!) If i remember to take the camera down to the garage this time, i will. :D 6cc dish would be very close to the mark. Quote
philbey Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I got 8cc dished pistons (ACL/Mahles) in mine. Quote
Gribble Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 A quick photo of the before and after honage, will continue the build once i can get the lifters refaced, they seem to be out of another motor and put on a new cam, but thank god the cam isnt showing signs of wear. More to come later. Quote
