sk8er_383 Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 hey can someone tell me a bit about the 4age 20v motor conversion into a ke20....how much roughly would cost to put in and if anyone would do it for a price...and all parts that would be needed to complete it........ thanks..... Quote
Redwarf Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 How about you tell us how much money you have, and we'll tell you if it's feasible. Quote
Redwarf Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 For someone else to do it, I'd say not a chance. Quote
sk8er_383 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 what about a 16v 4age ....would it be less money??? or still same Quote
Redwarf Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Do you want to do a proper job or a half arsed one? Do you just want to slot the engine and box in, without upgrading brakes and diff? Or do you want the thing to hold together as a nice little package. You also have to look at fuel system and electrics unless you want it Weber'd. (Factor $1K for good set-up Webers) Fabrication work and mechanical is charged out at anywhere between $60 and $90 per hour, depending on who does it. This conversion has been done more times than you can poke a stick at (I saw my first one in 1991 in a KE25), check out the members rides and engine conversions to see what you're up against. Quote
sk8er_383 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 i want it decent job...something good enough that wont rattle or break 4 now.....will need bigger brakes and diff for it to pass rego?..... because i was thinking just get the motor and gearbox in and get it running and latter when i get the money upgrade diff brakes and fuel system.....but if diff and breaks are needed how much would i be looking at spending for everything to get it running ... and how much without the stronger diff and breaks just a rough estimate...... Redwarf Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Go and buy one with it already done. Much cheaper that way. I'm not even going to start trying to work this out as you don't know what you want. Spend about two days doing some research into what you need and get back to us. The information is out there. Because you don't seem to want to do any of your own work, I really don't think you'll get away with much for $5K. Rego requirements differ from state to state. Contact your local transport authority. Quote

styler Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 $5000 to $50000... from basic diy to workshop full rebuild and restore. or buy one already done as redwarf suggests at half the price? look at similar cars for sale, they are sure to tell you the costs involved building the thing, try toymods as well. greenmac80 Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 my 20v ke55 conversion has cost about 6000 so far. i've done 90% of the work my self i still have to buy the diff and get the tailshaft modded. but thats with rebuilding the struts and front end suspension and steering into account also engineering i've had a rough quote of 3000 but i'm in adelaide. check my rides thread for some info (not heaps) but some Quote
Jono Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) you won't get a good conversion done, and on the road LEGALLY with $4000, double it and its possible but you won't get the good shit. IMHO, 20v isn't worth it. put in a 16v and turbo it. heaps more torque for your dollar. Edited January 27, 2009 by Jono Quote

styler Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 theres many ways to skin a cat especially if the cat is your wallet, when you have found the end to a piece of string you will know how much an engine conversion will cost you. Quote
