Hiro Protagonist Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 my mates just bought a sprinter and we're stuck trying to figure out if its the aussie or jap import version, theres no engine, just wanna know how to tell differences Cheers Build plate? Rear end (diff/brakes)? Tail-lights? Hell, dash would be a pretty good giveaway too. Take plenty of photos and post them up, should easily be able to tell. Quote
ke_fiddy Posted January 28, 2009 Author Report Posted January 28, 2009 weeell ill take pics if i get a chance and there's not much of a dash as the interior has been stripped as for the diff its a live axle- not sure if lsd or not and has drum brakes Quote
andro0o Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 the easiest is to jsut check the tail lights, does it say sprinter on them? if so its adm. but also the interior, the front end, the tail lights, the front brakes. rear end, the dash. Quote
quadeyquade Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 pretty sure drum brakes means adm Quote
Mickey H Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) This is what a JDM build plate looks like, If its not jdm it would say 4A-C, not 4AGEU, and the diff would be different too. The T282 means it is a T series diff, with a 4.30 gear ratio. EDIT; meant 'not jdm', not 'NOW jdm' Edited January 29, 2009 by Mickey H Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Holy cow all the misinformation. Adm - 4ac motor, t50 box with slave on passenger side of gearbox, non vented front rotors, 2014 calipers, S series diff with drum brakes. Ugly grill, only came in levin style. Only came in hatchback. JDM - 4ageu motor, t50 box with slave on drivers side, vented front brakes with 2022 calipers, T series diff with either discs or drums and either an lsd centre or open centre. T282 is 4.3 T series but its also open centre. If it was t283 it would be a 4.3 lsd. Had trueno pop up fronts and levin fixed lights. Also came as a 2 door coupe. The taillights differ. Some parts of the interior. Does it have a speed chime in the dash? If you want the definitive answer get the particulars off the build plate and ring Toyota. Quote
KE ping it real Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) With a 4age in it it would definately be a jdm as adm came with the 4ac Edit: ^^^^^You beat me to it Edited January 29, 2009 by KE ping it real Quote
parrot Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Virtually all of the above is meaningless. There are innumerable differences between the cars. And remember JDM can mean 4AC S series diff and "ADM" taillights too. All JDM didn't have 4AGE's and disc rear ends. The only reliable indicator is the build plate, checking that the frame number matches. The info on here can be simply read to interpret the specs as built. So many cars are now getting about with various bolt in bits such as diffs, engines, tail lights, door cards etc. that such signs mean nothing. When I first started to convert mine over in 1990, it was easier to get "JDM" tailights than "ADM" from an import wrecker. If it really is a JDM 4AGE etc, better indicators of originality besides the build plate, include correct fuel supply and return lines, correct underdash looms and so on which are rarely changed in conversions.
