200SX s14a Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Hi guys, tried to search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I just bought a 1990 AE92 Corolla SX Hatch 4AGE with 155,000 kms done. It didnt come with service history so i want to change all the oils and fluids. My question is, which engine and gearbox oil do you guys recommend for your 4AGE engines? Thinking of using the 10w30 Redline oil for the engine and Redline MTL for the gearbox. what do you guys think? Cheers Quote
Trev Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 You can use 3 oils for it, I only use penrite so either: HPR10, HPR15 or PRO20. Quote
Kozmo Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Hi there, I've recently been down this road... still need to get round to the gearbox oil. Engine oil... after doing a bit of research I decided to use AMSOIL 20W-50. More info: AMSOIL's Website Quote
Rolla Boy Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 VMX80 in the gearbox - will solve any crunches and roughness... Decent 20W/50 in the engine - anything over 100,000 usually gets something thicker from me... Quote
love ke70 Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 run with the standard 10w40 for now, see if it uses oil, if it doesnt, don't use a thicker oil than you need to, just creates more pressure, also known as a restriction to flow :P and the thicker oil and higher pressure creates very high temperatures on the bearing surfaces, which is just more stress. what do you do with the car? nother vote for the VMX80, save your dollars on the expensive stuff, don't really need it.. Mr Hardware Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 if you're in QLD then i'd say no thinner than 15w40, possibly 20w50 for that added bit of protection. Quote
