dfwj Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Just joined. Can anyone tell me what scheduled service costs I might be up for (should check have been done) if looking at a 1999 Seca Conquest? Thanks. Quote

Trev Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Normally have a sticker put on the timing cover, Written on the timing cover (sometimes a belt wont come with a sticker, big piss-off) or it will be written in the log book, The 100,000km service is not a major one either, The major one is around 160,000. For the belt you would be paying the price of the belt + approx. 1.5 hours. Quote
JiP Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Hey, welcome to the club. A bit off topic... I just don't get how a 10 year old rolla has done 100k while you find so many 30 year old corolla's that have done the same. Even other 30 year old ones are 200k. Are we driving more? Just a thought. A good car is one that has done 10,000k's a year, Have you never heard that? Quote
JiP Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 (edited) Well i thought the average was 30k per year? Not sure on what i've done in the past year but since i've owned my car i've done 60k in 4 years. But with that said i've always worked close to home. Edited January 10, 2009 by JiP Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I worked out that i do about 14,500km/yr JUST going from home to work. Quote

My 11-year old AE102 is about 50km off 300,000 :y:. So I'm in the timing-belt-change situation too, might as well do water pump and all other belts at the same time. Still dicing up whether to do it myself or get a mechanic for it, haven't got air-compressor + rattle gun so the crank bolt would be a problem... Quote
orangeLJ Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 crank bolt is easy enough, socket, breaker bar, pipe if needed, apply pressure and have someone flick the key to turn the engine over. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 crank bolt is easy enough, socket, breaker bar, pipe if needed, apply pressure and have someone flick the key to turn the engine over. From mates in the know, because it's a FWD engine (and thus the wheels are off the ground) the torque required to break the nut using breaker bar is greater than the torque required to turn the motor backwards. And using a breaker bar against the ground and cranking the engine is inviting disaster. Quote
macca__1590 Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 just put it in gear and get someone to apply the breaks while you attack it with the breaker bar Quote

Thanks. give your local toyota dealership a call and find out whats it due for and a quote on the job, compare that to other workshop quotes. Quote
