gday i've got a 3k with a starter problem I'm assuming, drive the car for an hour or so, turn it off to go in to the shops, servo etc... jump in turn the key get the oil and brake light up on the dash, turn the key to start, expect to hear a crank of the motor and nothing.... no sound no throw out no solanoid sound nothing.

the car with clutch instantly, and in some cases will start again if turned off minutes later... Now i've read that the older starters had sticking problems under heat, and the 4k ke70's came with a heat shield, but is this my one and only problem?? its just heat sticking preventing from starting or what?? has anyone had anything similar to this that can help recitfy before i go and fit a 4k ke70 starter

cheers

My 3k starter gets stuck too. It just had a mind of it’s own. Some times I would turn the key (cold or hot) and no crank. If you tap/bash the starter with shifter or something it would work sometimes.

Took it apart and cleaned it. Brushes were pretty worn but I think ok (I can’t find replacements). Worked for a while but now same thing so I suppose I’ll through a new one in there or take it to an auto dude.

Mine's a Denso.

Hey mate my old 4k did exactly the same thing.. My starter was playing up so i got a new second hand one but it had a heat sheild which i took off haha i know what an idiot (oringinal never had one so i didnt think it was nesersery) . It would start good as cold but never hot. All i did was replace it for another second had one and for some reason it just worked (no heat shield either) I think its just the nature of an older car. I would suggest just trying another they arnt too dear..

But if you do get stuck they can sometimes just need a lil tap with a spanner or something..

Good Luck and sorry if this is usless info you probably already know..

Cheers Sam
