SLW42 Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 hey guys and gurls has anybody ever put a 2tg or 18rgeu into a ae71 before??? how hard would it be??? Quote
Trev Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 The AE71 came from the factory in Japan with a 2T in it, Its called the TE71. Quote
SLW42 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 so i could just modify the celica engine mounts and the corolla ones and drive it away to a degree?? Quote
machg Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) You have to use a T series bellhousing too. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=4598&st=60 :y: Edited January 7, 2009 by machg Quote
TE278U Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I have done it and currently have it in my ae71. T-18 cross member t18 gear box and clutch solid line. ke70 tailshaft. need to wire up the coil on other side of engine bay. pretty easy conversion, but you'll either need to weld steering rack mounts on the t18 crossmember, or modify AE71 mounts to take the T motor. with the T18 cross member, everythng bolted up and there was no clearance problems. -dave Quote
SLW42 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) but i can get away with using my ae71 crossmember and just use t 18 engine mounts???? does the firewall need any kinda persuading to accept the t50?? beacuse i can easily get everythin i need to both persuade and do conversion Edited January 8, 2009 by mr ae71 Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 does the firewall need any kinda persuading to accept the t50?? beacuse i can easily get everythin i need to both persuade and do conversion An AE71 (assuming it's manual) will already have a T50, so I fail to see why you'd need to "persuade" the firewall to accept one from a Celica. Oh, and there have been 18Rs put in AE71s too, but it's not common in Aus because there are lighter, smaller and cheaper options. Same goes for the 2T, they're both big heavy engines. 2Ts are more common in older KEs, but when you get to the KE70 and AE71 you've got access to much newer engines that require less work to install (like a 4AGE) which are smaller, lighter and cheaper to get more power out of, and practically drop in.
