quadeyquade Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 update? I gave up, as I am lazy, and it being a lot harder to have forced induction. So I am going 4agze now. My 20v and all my spares are all now forsale. Quote
the witzl Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) 20V conversion...... hard??? isnt that an oxymoron? Seriously - i could do this conversion in two weekends if i really got stuck into it. It is literally a bolt in swap - just use the engine mounts from the 16V 4age, and it just bolts in DIRECTLY. I would probably consider this more of an "engine swap" than a proper conversion. Edited July 1, 2009 by the witzl Quote
Instigator Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Do you know what you're doing with wiring that's the question? The mechanical side of things is piss easy. I just finished a S/T 20v -> AE95 conversion which is practically the same as an AE92 but with a 4WD gearbox. Hardest part was grinding the block to clear the gearbox and the wiring. I think I have a pic on my laptop of the engine mount that needed to be modded I'll try and dig it up. I used the drivers side mount of the 4afe motor and there was a knob sort of bit that had to be ground off where an extra bolt that's not needed with the 20v was. Bottom cam gear cover needs to be modded too, I just left mine off. Quote
the witzl Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 if you use the 16V 4age timing cover engine mount then you don't need to modify anything, and the timing covers bolt up with no interference. Quote
cuppas Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 i would be going from 4age to 20v... wasnt there an engine mount that needed to be modified? has anyone got a pic of this? Quote
Instigator Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I hope that's a typo and you mean wouldn't because it's not a smart move. On another forum a well respected member said: I remember when a dude I worked with put a 20v in his AE92. It made 80.2kw at the wheels with the 16v. With the 20v it made. . . . 80.4kw. Exactly identical power curves too. Found the pics, the top left of the mount was ground down to clear and the bottom of the cam cover notched. I also modified the throttle cable bracket so I could use the AE95 cable. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the AE92 is the same in the front end... Quote
the witzl Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 i never had to modify ANY of those things when fitting into an AE92 SX Seca. Quote
cuppas Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 seriously? straight fit? quite unexpected. Quote
Instigator Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 SXs were all twin cam yeah? Mine had a 4ac in it so that's probably why... Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 SXs were all twin cam yeah? Mine had a 4ac in it so that's probably why... all ae9x were twincam Quote
quadeyquade Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 all ae9x were twincam I think he meant to say 4age, not twincam. Also I am shit at explaining myself. I meant, taking into account the wiring, and the limited gains, and the bang for buck in comparison to a 4AGZE, is why I gave up. Quote
cuppas Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 alright so i cooked my 16v on the weekend, so it looks like this is happening sooner than i planned how hard is the piping and electrical side to shonk up? Quote
quadeyquade Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 i never had to modify ANY of those things when fitting into an AE92 SX Seca. Is that with the AE101 or AE93 mount on the left hand side? I think I left mine on my smallport >_< Quote
Hans Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 i apologise for diggin up old threads, but can someone help me with the 20V engine wirning loom to wire up to the SX fuse box and battery..as the 20V engine loom already has a (+) Battery terminal? also the alternator wiring up to the SX as well as under dash harness plugging into the ECU? do those wires need modification?
