Super Jamie Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 they used to be rare, then we discovered new zealand, now just about all good jdm bits are plentiful. my battery brace and washer bottle are from a te27, cos they're all i could find at the time :D Quote
Medicine_Man Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 T50's kinda look like K50's. They don't look that similar.. Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 more similar than a T50 and a loaf of bread! Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 jamie, te27 bits are rare here too!!! the easiest way to tell a k40/50 from a t40/50 is the bellhousing..... does this box have a sperater bellhousing? if people have an idea on what the k-t bellhousing come sin I'm happy to do some looking. ok did some looking..... k-t series appears to be in ke74 (5kj) and kt147 (corona) JDM only so far, there maybe the odd townace etc that has a k-t box. so they would appear to be rare things! anyone else have any more ideas? rollin, maybe if you could post some pics up we could help more? Xany Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 i'm after one of these bellhousings..... townaces would be where i'd be getting mine from (or warwick)...... never seen or looked at pictures of one though......even if i was to get one of these bellhousings, would it change the rotation of the gearbox? Redwarf Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Toyowreck (?) I think it was, the Toyota Wrecker in Bayswater in Melbourne used to get them in. At one stage it was cheaper to buy a K-T box than it was a K50 off them. Quote

Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 i thought of the 7k, they use the g series box Quote
Xany Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 (edited) so basically you would still have to stand the 4K, 5K, upright before you could attach a t-50 anyway......even using one of those bellhousings.... unless you wanted your shifter in the passengers footwell..... :D anyone know where or how to make a K50 box stronger....to take more power? Edited April 9, 2005 by Xany Quote
irokin Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Cryo freeze the gears....nitride them...straight cut if your a rich... they may fail like some of the old RX3 gearboxes did. The housings would flex/crack apart till there was very little of the gears touching and then just strip the gears. Theyd strap the box and then it could hold some 300hp+... Quote

TRD ke70 Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 (edited) Mr Revhead Posted on Apr 9 2005, 03:57 PM i thought of the 7k, they use the g series box yip your right but toyota on a lot of there engines use the same patten on the bell housing to gearbox. i have a manual box at work i'll try it out and let you know. Super Jamie Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 anyone know where or how to make a K50 box stronger....to take more power? don't drop the clutch :D you can also turn the layshaft around to get a few extra hundred thousand km out of one, as the teeth on one end don't get used so they don't crack stewart was looking into getting a group buy of billet K gearbox stuff going, but has since decided to put a turbo 4ag into his good sprinter, and then decided to go to japan for 2 years, so don't hold your breath Quote
blown 5k Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 If you wanted to upright a k series engine using a t series box then to do it properly you need a trd upright bellhousing, but you can run them uprighted without it(gearbox on a lean). From what i`ve seen there isnt that many k series bellhousings around over here some places want $250 for them, the two ive got are 22 spline output shaft boxs and have a hydraulic clutch, one i`ve converted to cable, but ive also got a rare cable operated bellhousing.Easiest way to tell a k from a t series box is as someone said the bellhousings are removable or they`re commonly called split case because they split in half down the centre of the main part of the gearbox, they come in two shifter locations early ta celicas had the forward shifter postion that would suit ke20/30 in fact if you look in the floorpan of a ke 20/30 rearward of the std floorpan mounting bolt holes you`ll see a hole for t series box,and theres the further back shifter postion to suit ke70.T50s also come out in 20 spline and 22 spline output shafts 20 spline fits k series rollas. Xany Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 cool.......anyone got a k-t bellhousing they wanna sell...... :D i really need one......breaking gearboxes isnt fun. blown 5k: what type of gearbox do you have behind yours?.....i'd also be interested to know what diff? Quote
