I know all you old guys are going to say I'm stupid etc but,

Think of it this way. If you know that your on your 3rd strike or whatever, and you know if you get pulled over, there's a chance your car is going to get crushed, would you stop? I would think most young people with modified cars wouldn't. I know I wouldn't. Which results in a cop chase. which has the potential to kill more people. And if I had my car crushed, I know the next I would do is make a faster car.

And I remember reading on I think the old ae86dc forums in a similar thread, someone brought up the statistics, which showed drinking driving and driver fatigue to kill a lot more people on the streets than hooning.

that may be true

but that doesn't give YOU the right to be a dick on the road and get in a car chase on purpose and put OTHER people in danger and maybe even KILL them just so you don't lose your 'precious' car.

lets sum it up...

$50,000 car or someones life, what are you going to choose?

you my friend, are a douchebag

Something I just don't get.

There is no education. For starters it should start in schools. Driver training etc.

Secondly, there is no place for enthusiasts to go. Before Christmas I went to the skids for the first/last time. Everyone is edging this guy on to drift around the teardrop. When it goes well he's a legend, when it doesn't he's a loser.

1. He is an inexperienced P plater driving a high powered car (Soarer) One that is too powerful for him.

2. There is no safety, no barriers. All the cars are lined up around the outer edge of the street with spectators in front of them.

3. The unthinkable happens. He over corrects and flies in towards the crowd. A Young girl was sitting in a 4wd with her legs hanging out of an open door. He hit that door and the slid and pinned under the 4wd. And what happend then?? The crowd that once edged him on turned against him. He later as he tried to leave got punched in the face through his open window and had bottles thrown at his car. Not even his insurance would cover this and for the 4wd owner to even make a claim he will need to make a police report. But then again he shouldn't have been parked on a driveway too.

But they are all guilty. Do you think that one person called an ambulance for that girl?? Did her friends take her to a hospital?? What friends they are.

They need a controlled environment where kids like this can go to do whatever they want where it is safe. Doing it on local roads where bystanders could get hurt is plain stupid.

We use to have this massive carpark down on the Gold Coast where everyone use to go to show off their cars. The cops could always shut the place down and start defecting people when ever they feel like it. And most recently, the council closed the car park to make it some sort of parklands.

So where is that sending them now?? No one wants them around so they send them to local streets, industrial estates, main roads & highways.

So really, are the kids driving these cars really 100% to blame?? Or do the government and councils share part of it too.

Couldnt agree more. NO education in schools yet and the same thing in adelaide in the late 90's we had a big carpark to pose in and got closed to make the hi rise appartments at glenelg jap cars became more on the scene and took it to the streets just having mallala is a joke.

JiP got it in one with that post!

Thats a very good point, Cops seem so quick to try and clear carparks of car gatherings.

Back in the day when My older brother first got his licence, we used to hang out at terrigal beach carpark every thursday friday and saturday nights, there was the odd sqealing tyre when someone left, but that was it, the place was well lit, had ample room and fights and crap rarely happened (alchohol free zone and cop shop about 200m away)

Because they had nothing to fine anyone for (we were just sitting around) they changed to ticketed parking, the general public complained, so they got rid of it and started fining everyone for loitering.... so we all moved to the haven, little less well lit, has a bigger carpark and a big circular 500m-1km road..... so what happened? burnouts, drifting, maccas tray fun, roof surfing anything and everything. then they shut that down, they cracked down on ilegal racing at the chittaway 1/4 mile, defected everyone that showed up at Newy foreshore, stop the illegal racing and gatherings on the island and basically stopped any sort of meeting of young people in cars (modified or not)

Now the illegal racing was, well, illegal and semi-dangerous, not as bad as it always sounded (this was 6-8 years ago)

The "hang-out" points were just good fun and places to chat. The older kids kept the younger dicks inline and there was a bit of a compromise between testosterone and freindship.

So about 5 years ago it all disappeared.

Try finding a group of decent young people in the streets, who you can just approach and chat to without getting bashed, stabbed or robbed.

It just doesnt happen anymore, they stopped anything decent, so everyone is a seperatist now and no one has any respect for anyone or anything.

maybe they all needed more wooden spooning as kids :P

JiP had it right about people not having anywhere safe to do these things, which I said in my last post, but in schools [at least the ones I went to] there is a driver education thing.

At my old school it was an actual subject with two lessons per week called "driver education", I left before I was in the year they do it so I don't know what they actually teach, but I think it was just basically responsible driving strategies and what happens if you do something wrong, they set up a mock crash where they had like the car crashing and make up makingt he people in the car look badly injured, ambulances, firies etc. It was really good, i watched part of it a couple years ago [they do it out on the road at lunch time so everyone in school could watch it].

At my new school, because its especially based on studies [maths, history, etc so there's no PE, music or other subjects like that - art and drama is as crazy as it gets] we just had one hour-long mentoring session where a cop came in and told us stuff like safe strategies, what happens if you do the wrong thing etc, using photos and videos of crashes and all that.

Schools do stuff like that, but it doesn't sink in to dickhead's brains. They do drugs and alcohol education things too and no one listens. If people are stupid enough to do these things in the first place these sessions aren't going to change their minds. They know what they're doing is wrong and dangerous, and that's why most of them do it.

If preventing the problem fails, the only thing people can do is punish them.

This is what i meant *sigh*

Have you ever met a teenager? Alot of them would chose the car.....

But i guess anyone could change their mind in that scenario

And i never said i deserve the right to be a dick on the road. alot of people have layed out ideas how someone could be wrongfully labelled a street racer

I actually had a thought about that a few weeks ago. Is it my 3rd strike or my car?? Not saying I've had any strikes, just since I have so many cars I'd want my strike to be on a bomb. And if I go for a 4th strike would that start again at 1??

First of all, i am a teenager

second of all, i know that if me or any of my mates who are into their cars would definitely rather have their car taken from them then to kill someone else.

sorry if i offended you but i just can't see how someone could put their car in front of killing a person.

Thats the thing, most people wouldnt think of killing someone, they would simply be thinking of self preservation.

No one here can really say they wouldnt try and run, you havent been in that situation (neither have I) of having your car on its final strike.

I can however, honestly say, that the thought of doing a runner on the cops has crossed my mind when I thought I was completely screwed anyway.

a little "theoretical" situation (wink wink)-

When I first got my Ps I went flying past a copper sitting in a side street on the main road. I was in my torana and it was about 3am. I was doing WELL over the speed limit (stupidly over the 60kay speed limit, lets just say that I probably would have never gotten my licence back) I saw him react, and by the time I saw him pull out and start to come after me I was already a fair way down the road, I had foot burried on the accelerator and had turned off the main road before he could make enough distance up to see where I went, took all the back streets and whipped it straight into the shed, didnt drive it for over a month, was scared shitless.

But i had possibly the worst reaction you could have to seeing a copper when doing something wrong, I kept going. Luckily for me, I was only a couple kays from home, and I got away with it.

Now that wasnt the right thing to do, but it saved my licence and most likely my car (anyone who has been 17 knows that you are still worried about what your parents can do/take away) That was all I could think of.

Ive been done for a few other things since then, never in my torana, but never anything quite that severe.

Put someone in the same situation, 3rd strike, loves their car, open road etc etc.

Its going to happen.

Nah your right mate, like i said, every changes when your in that position
