andro0o Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 its a jsut jap one. my brother is having a custom one made for his car so yeh. so curious can i get it to work? i havnt heard of people running oil coolers on a k series before so I'm a lil confused. any info would be appreciated? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 K's don't really need oil coolers,...until you start pushing lots of power out of them or by heating the oil with other means, ie turbo. You can get an adapter plate which screws on under your oil filter, the one I have pictured below also has an inbuilt thermostat. Quote
andro0o Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 where might i aqquire an adapter plate and how much are they? Quote
duggy Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 where might i aqquire an adapter plate and how much are they? most proper performance shops will stock them plz dnt try autobahn or something like that but there any where between 100 and 300 dollars oh and there usually called a sandwhich plate :y: Duggy Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Yeah like duggy said ask for an "oil cooler sandwich plate". I've got a couple from bursons for $80 each. I think they're actually for a chev, but have the right diametre and thread pitch for a K - incase your parts man needs some help. :y: Quote
andro0o Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 while your at it would you be able to give those particular dimensions please? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Wouldn't know. Just get the to pull an oil filter off the sheft (or take one in) and get them off that. :y: Quote
andro0o Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 thanks taz_rx i purchased one. i gave you a shout in the member thanks thread :P Quote
TOMMYS Ke 11 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 just woundering how it all works as i would be interested in putting one on my engine have you any more photos or any more information???? Thanks tom Quote
parrot Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 First of all I would suggest you are wasting your time with a K motor unless it is a really serious build. Second, any cooler matrix made for an S13 will be way to big for a K series. If you do fit one, would be critically important to fit a thermostat otherwise the oil will always be too cold, which is very bad. Seriously, it is a waste of time. If you are still really keen, go here and download the catalogue which has a lot of relevant info about how, why and design issues for your system. Plus every part you can imagine. Quote
goldke70 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 So far the chat has been on only getting one if you done a lot of work to the k motor..? What about long-haul, i.e. if your doing big trips in the K like 1000k trips etc..? I know it sounds funny but would one be worthwhile in this regard (with thermostat)? Quote
andro0o Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) i honestly just did it for wank effect. although my motor smashes small port ge's? is that a big enough build? its get dynod today what numbers would you constitute as serious lol? edit: spelling. SLW42 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 I have an auto trans oil cooler screwed into the front of my car is it also possible to use that with said adapter??? Quote
philbey Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I reckon you'll find that it's got barbed connections, whereas an engine oil cooler will be threaded. You can try it, but have a thing of the consequences if one of those hoses pops off..... Quote
