Chances are you wont get rid of it completely.  With mine my boot lid 'popped' off the bracing so i filled that gap with silicone, i put on a new boot seal, made sure the taillights and every other bolt i could tighten was tightened and at the end of the day it was the whole rear panel (with tailights etc) that managed to rattle, and I'm not the biggest bass whore.  I found that removing the melomine (sorry spelling) sheet from behind the rear seat increased the bass in the car and did lessen the boot rattle a bit. Quote
trav_555 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i sealed the boot with mdf and expanda foam, and put rubber behind the number plate, only part that shook after i was done was the p plate bracket, all air shifted into car then so it adds more bass as well :y: Quote
greenmac80 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i agree with smacko... i don reckon you ever be able to get rid of it completely. factory cars straight off the line with subs rattle. Quote
SLW42 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 (edited) well i have sorted out tha tail light rattle but not the boot rattle, the top of the boot has seperated from the bracing :y: and i don't hav number plates for the time being  so silicone will stop most of the problems then  my celica has 2 12's an it has never been mucked with an doesnt rattle at all maybe it was toyota design never to hav subs in a ae71 Edited January 3, 2009 by mr ae71 Quote
Jason KE30 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 fyi silicone should not be used on or near cars, bad things happen. if you need to use anything close to silicone, use the stuff sikaflex alot stronger and won't screw anything up if you plan to do sumthing in the future Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 ^^^^ agreed... my cousin has a Ford BA falcon and his boot rattled like crazy, so he put "sitkaflex" around the bracing and all the rattles stopped... i think its the same stuff they put around the front window when installed?? Quote
Jason KE30 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 yea most likely my dad uses the stuff at his work as a panelbeater on buses they use it to stick to panels on and its a bitch to get off too lol Quote
Johno Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I agree, don't use silicon for anything on your car. Use sikaflex. Quote

yea most likelymy dad uses the stuff at his work as a panelbeater on buses they use it to stick to panels on and its a bitch to get off too lol It depends on what Sikaflex (as in Sick-a-Flex) is used cause there's more then one type eg - 255 is for gluing down the windscreens Jason what your dad most likely would be using is 252 its a panel glue more or less and 551,552 and 554 are spray on protective coatings (551 is like a sound deadener from memory) Quote
Jason KE30 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 oh ok just figured that there's either black or white and it was some sort of 'super' super glue learn something new everyday cheers for the info :y: Quote
towe001 Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Going a little off topic but in that case you should also check out some of the 3M brand double-sided tape. Its used in the construction industry for bonding outside panels to skyscrapers etc Quote
Jason KE30 Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 bahaha that sounds funny Architect: 'This skyscraper is stuck together with sticky tape' Crowd: 'Ahhhh' mind you my dad also uses the real strong double sided tape on buses Quote
