trav_555 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 ok on my ke70, a) whats the difference with a hydraulic handbrake? b) can i do it on my stock diff? or do i need rear calipers? c) don't yell at me, only just heard a lil bit about em  d) any write ups on them? cheers Travis Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 hey mate got one in my ke70 khanacross car... the difference is instead of reafing on your cable operated handbrake, with a hydraulic handbrake you use it through your rear brakes, then use a master cylinder off the standard handbrake or make up your own separate handbrake which can be brought/fabricated. it then uses the fluid to lock your rear brakes not the cable. BUT!!!! is ILLEGAL for registered cars. Quote

Jason Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I was under the assumption you also left the original handbrake in to get over that? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I was under the assumption you also left the original handbrake in to get over that? I second that opinion, Though we are in QLD, Maybe different in other states? Quote
hilux05 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 don't know about legalities but the stock one takes up valuable real estate as thats where i'd want my hydraulic one, so i'd be trying to mod a hilux under dash hand brake for the fail safe and so that its out of the way.. Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 yeah you usually leave standard cable in, but from what i understand if you have a hydro handbrake, it makes your hydraulic system more vulnerable (spelling  ) aka stuffing up when driving! Quote
trav_555 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 so the hydraulic handbrake could lock up at any time? so cars arent brought out with hydraulic handbrakes then? Quote
irokin Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 More along the lines of leak fluid all over the floor... Not by sensible car manufacturers anyway. Quote
corollaart Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Try google seemore ,sell hand brake kits.don't no why you would want it road car? Rallyor drift or club car ,for sure do it :y: The master cyclinder you use is pbk p4872 which i think is off series 2 landrover clutch master cyclinder. Or something like that.make sure your brake cyclinders are good or new . Yes they are illeagal. rob, Quote
trav_555 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 ahh ok, no point doing it then until i make my track car then cheers for the info, will look into it some more, i like the idea of them and for a track car with a long one like rally car gear levers would be perfect i think Quote
The D Man Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 yeh the vertical ones work overrated... one reason i did mine vertical is cos you don't have your hand of the steering wheel for as long. Quote
