went looking thru u-pull-it the other day looking for a right hand mirror to suit flat front ke70, and couldn't find one, have a feeling you can't get them.

so went looking thru the lesser automotive brands, and found a pair of sweet looking mirrors. problem is they mount better on the guards.

What are peoples opinions on guard mounted mirrors,

I'm split bothways, and my paint job is pretty good so i don't want to make the wrong decission either way.

a little group support would run sweet now.

could post pix for a better understanding, but would rather see what you all come up with first.

cheers,

Guard mounted mirrors - i don't mind them, think their pretty cool.

Been thinking of getting a set of bike mirrors for my '55 and mounting them on the guards.

Think their a lot safer to use as well - don't have to move the head as much, can see a wider picture (depending on the size of the mirror) and the blind spots are smaller (or less chance of blind spots)

do you mean fender mirrors? if so i run them they are good but not everyone likes them...

personal preferance at the end of the day, + style your going for...

also fender mirrors arnt exactly legal nowerdays...

i like fender mirrors on old cars, especially KE corollas and early mazdas. i have them on my ke20 and will be putting some on my recently acquired KE25 because they are part of old school jdm look that i like. i wouldnt say they give you more visibility than door mirrors, just a different view of things. the blind spot does move as well but ive never tested it out so i might not even have a blind spot now, i just always look over my shoulder anyway.

as for the legality of fender mirrors i have no idea. as with everything on my car i just tell the officer/RTA thats how it was when i bought it sir and i think it was legal back in the 70s.

and ive got a set of the squarer fender mirrors at home that would suit a KE70 perfectly, if your in sydney and want to buy them send me a pm. wont cost you much cause they are just sitting there collecting dust, i reckon a pack of ciggies would cover it.

Its a personal choice.

Look at the pros and cons:

Pros:

Look kinda cool

JDm style

When your driving hard you can use your mirrors without turning away from the road as much, and you get a completely different blindspot area.

Cons:

Need to get out of the car to adjust, or use 2 people.

Butcher 2 panels and paint.

Some people just don't get it. The kind of people who want indicator mirrors off a merc on their ke.

I'm currently running fender mirrors and I can tell you now, they don't work as well as door mounted ones. Can't see shit out of them and in the rain they're worse. I wouldn't recommend them if you're wanting more visibility. You'll have to do more head checks and will have to rely on your middle/inside mirror. Once your glass fogs up, that's it. :)

I say have a drive in a car with them already and decide from that.

its for this exact reason that they ARE illegal (in SA) i know for a fact.

style comes at a price.

I have never driven a car with Fender mirrors but i can see Adams view on it.

I personally think fender mirrors look good on Ke 10-25 but ke70 isn't old enough for that classic 70's styling. I think its more of a look thing rather than practicability.

Yeah knew that one. Just make them powered :)

Who the hell in their right mind would go and do that :wtf:

Crap, hey. Didn't know that

Might have to re-think doing it to mine

I will try to take a few photos to show you guys how much of a difference the door and fender mirrors are. The shots will be from where the driver is sitting. It should show you how much worse they are, they're definitely just for looks.

i hate them,., drove my bros car home when he got it (he was on L's) and it had fender mirrors..

Worse hour of driving ever, not only was the car running crap, it was impossible to see properly

well replies have been awesome, alot of things i didnt think of, (rain, fog)

its definately a look thing over practicality.

its those ricers that keep me from putting them on, and my mate has some and he reckons people love screwing around with them.

people just don't understand...

i think ill go with normal mirrors... its a shame the one i got look sick kinda jdm gt stylish.

so... where do i get a standard left hand ke70 door mounted (not slanty mirror) mirror from?

I'm pretty sure they don't come out with them standard

cheers for the replies guys!
