son of stig Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) Hey all just looking to pick some brains. I'm putting together a KE20 from rolling shell, using a lot of spare KE55 bits i have. Almost done but have a few queries. - Clutch cable - do these differ at all from Ke2x - KE3x,5x? - Do KE20s need the white rectangular resistor on the side of the ignition coil? The KE3x,5x seem to all have one, but noticed a few pics of KE20s don't. - Exhaust/inlet - Currently have the 4-2 stock headers from a KE5x that join to the inlet manifold. The KE20 only has a single pipe so I'm getting the 4-1 stock headers tonight. Does this mean i need a different inlet manifold too to get rid of the gaping hole in the bottom for the exhaust join? Or could i just block up the bottom of the inlet manifold with a plate? - Brake pressure splitter on firewall - anyone got one spare?? and the 2 metal brake lines to run from it to the single cylinder master (no booster)? if so ill buy them. - 3K or 4K bits? ive put the 4K motor in the KE20 but i have a complete 3k running gear in another spare car. are there any bits i should bother swapping over for performance. eg head / carby? The 3K (in a KE35) seems to go a fair bit harder and crisper than the 4K ever did in the KE55. I thought maybe because the 4K carby has more emissions crap on it? May actually just use the 3K carby because its the only one with the knob for the KE20 accelerator cable to join onto. Unless someone has adapted a ke3x/5x accelerator cable in a KE20? Any help MUCH APPRECIATED. Cheers, Paul Edited December 28, 2008 by son of stig Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 so you havent mucked around getting the thing back into one peice i see Sorry don't know the answer to any of those Q, but let me know if you want a hand with it Quote
son of stig Posted December 29, 2008 Author Report Posted December 29, 2008 hah yeah she is almost ready to go, just gotta sort these issues then its off to get painted. only taken about 8 hours so far ;) Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Hey all just looking to pick some brains. I'm putting together a KE20 from rolling shell, using a lot of spare KE55 bits i have. Almost done but have a few queries. - Clutch cable - do these differ at all from Ke2x - KE3x,5x? SHOULD be the same. Not 100%, wait for an RC expert. - Do KE20s need the white rectangular resistor on the side of the ignition coil? The KE3x,5x seem to all have one, but noticed a few pics of KE20s don't. Called a Ballast resistor. Depends on what sorta coil you are running. If running the stock coil. make sure you have a ballast resistor - Exhaust/inlet - Currently have the 4-2 stock headers from a KE5x that join to the inlet manifold. Corollas didnt run boosters up untill the ke3x series. Will be able to use the splitter from a ke3x-5x should be the same size plus its all metric - 3K or 4K bits? ive put the 4K motor in the KE20 but i have a complete 3k running gear in another spare car. are there any bits i should bother swapping over for performance. eg head / carby? The 3K (in a KE35) seems to go a fair bit harder and crisper than the 4K ever did in the KE55. I thought maybe because the 4K carby has more emissions crap on it? May actually just use the 3K carby because its the only one with the knob for the KE20 accelerator cable to join onto. Unless someone has adapted a ke3x/5x accelerator cable in a KE20? 3K head on 4K to rasie compression. You can use the 3k carb on the 4k but i wouldnt as its jetted for a 3k not the larger 4k. Most of the parts on a K engine can be swapped. I know what you mean about the 3k being crisper than a 4k. The 3k in my KE25 seemed to go alot harder than the 4K in my ke30. I know the ke3x are heavier than the ke2x's, but the 3k revved ALOT harder then the 4k taking into consideration the 4k is a mass piece of shiz. Any help MUCH APPRECIATED. Cheers, Paul Quote
son of stig Posted December 29, 2008 Author Report Posted December 29, 2008 super sweet. cheers for the info! running a gt40 coil so ill keep the resistor on. i thought the clutch cables seemed the same (minus the rubber stopper), so that makes me feel better. great news about the brake splitter. time to go rip a few more bits off my ke35 then... including possibly the motor and box... anyone want a rusty but straight ke35 coupe shell?? oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Is your coil a gt40, or a gt40r, because only the one with the 'r' after it is meant to have the resistor with it. Quote
son of stig Posted December 29, 2008 Author Report Posted December 29, 2008 ive actually got both sorts. thanks for that! Quote
