TRD ke70 Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 They have nothing!! we have even lightened the wiper relay box. Today we scored a set of solid buckets for the engine, $$$ = FA. Send the rocker covers off to the powder coaters, pick up an alternator, and welsh plugs. Also started machining the adapter to take the electronic K dizzy. Quote
snot35 Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Trev is on to it. Takes away any chance of the coil been damaged by stones, heat, and water. You'd be surprised how many cars stop after a water crossing in a rally, this is also why we don't run foam air cleaners and we water proof our plug leads and dizzy. I figured it would be something like that, I just can't recall seeing it done on a rally car before? I know my old one always stopped in water crossings :) So what class are you aiming for? After seeing the classics at ROSA I keep thinking a Webered 4age 70 would be awesome. It's not in the rules yet, but RA4x celicas can run 3SG's, so it can't be that hard. Whack some flares on it, awesome..... :D Quote
KENut Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Hey TRD ke70, keiichi on AE86dc found a supplier of 2 part Handi foam. TRD ke70 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks for that, will look into it!! Quote
corollaart Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Great work ,I would be keen on the disy adaptor ,so you use k engine electronic disy with 4age drive cog?? Then i guess it would have to be spaced out a fair bit ,because of the lenght is lot longer than 4a disy. rob Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 21, 2010 Author Report Posted July 21, 2010 Hey Rob, still working on it at the moment, have found another way to do it. Does still include an adapter, but it'll be flush with the head, discovered you can drill the K dizzy shaft as it's not case hardened. Also there are 2 types of 4age dizzy gears, one is pressed on to the shaft, and the other is pinned through the shaft. I'll post some pic's when it's done, and i may do a write up as well, because there is so much bad info out there about which is the best way to do it. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Posted July 22, 2010 New map light has finally turned up, that'll be fitted to the car in the weekend. Also should have the sump baffling done as well, just waiting for the pistons to come back from the machine shop, then the bottom end can go together Still working on the Dizzy adpater, should be finished in the weekend as well. Have screwed half the dash in, and we're lightening things as we go. Quote
jimi91 Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 looking good :) keep up the good work see ya jimi Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 Thanks Jimi!! Dash is all screwed in with Brantz (Terra trip)bolted in, and map light screwed on. Valve and guide work has been started. I now have to modify the sump, thought we might get away with it, but when it's fitted to the engine it doesn't have enough clearance between the sump and sump guard. Needs about 15-20mm, so it'll be reduce the height of the sump and add wings to get the volume back. I HATE DOING SUMPS!!! Sorry about the quality of the photos, iphones have shit cameras!! Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 sweet build i find it interesting the mods you do to it to make it a rally car. cool stuff Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Posted July 25, 2010 Thanks mate, yeah a lot of the mods are because it's a rally car and it'll see abuse that other cars won't. Well the sump mods continue, wings have been added and i'm half way through welding it up. Tony has started on porting the head, after finishing the valves and guides today. Car maybe put on to the trailer this week or next to be taken up to get the fuel tank made. Quote
jimi91 Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 thats ok yeah looks like ya had some dramas about the sump :) but looks like ur on top  the dash looks awsome mate and nice setup thats sounds great that ur getting the tank in soon how big u planning on going in it not to big other wise it will be to heavy and then ull have a heavy car lol  keep it up mate and soon ull be racing soon see ya jimi Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Posted July 25, 2010 Yeah Jimi, didn't expect to have to mod the sump, but shit happens. At least we know we'll have enough capacity, and it'll be baffled right. fuel tank will be about 35-40 ltr's, made out of alloy, it shouldn't be to big, ha, i did look at making one out of carbon fiber, but wasn't sure how the resin would hold up and how to actually construct it in one piece. the dash is just nice and simple, very lite too!!
