Hey guys.

My weber's accelerator mechanism is sticking... Whenever I take my foot off the accelerator, it (accelerator thing at weber end of cable) gets all sticky and I have to kinda kick it and give it revs for it to become unstuck... as you can imagine I look like a complete tool revving at traffic lights and everytime I stop, and it's making driving not fun at all... can anyone suggest a way to fix this? I went and wasted $10 on wd40 since I wasn't at home and it didn't fix it at all...

Cheers.

Edit: Should mention that this is a reconditioned carby and hasn't been on my long enough to succumb to wear/crap inside it.

Have you disconnected the accelerator cable and made sure that its the carby that is the problem, and not the cable jamming within the casing.

Try loosening off the nut that holds the 'cable wheel' on and then hit it with more wd40. Maybe a stiffer return spring is needed?

I've sprayed the whole thing with wd40 to no avail... we put Chris' return spring on which was really stiff and it did the exact same thing except was way harder to unstick. The cable moves freely within the casing. :bash:

the current weber i have on my engine was displaying similar problems when first installed. when coming off throttle, it would stay 'stuck' at 1800 rmp. a quick kick of the pedal would get it to drop to somewhere between 800rpm (where the idle was set) and 1200rpm. this was all without a return spring, so i picked one up and it helped a little bit, the idle would return to 1200rpm, but wouldn't drop to 800rpm where it should be.

i discovered the shaft that the cable rotates when you press the throttle (which opens the butterflys) is worn, and has a little bit of freeplay in it. i would fix it, but it doesn't affect driveability so i've just left it as is. :bash:

disconnect the accel cable from the weber, and play with the mechanism that rotates the botterflys. (that's how i found my problem)

stronger return spring (if it has one)

Also get some WD40 and spray it down your cable ends.

Stronger return spring just made it harder to unstick. Tried the wd40 thing.

I ended up putting the Aisin carby back on as the Weber had too many issues.
