hey guys

ive searched the forum and i havent stumbled onto anything like this so i want to get everyones thoughts on building a drift rolla. i've got a 25k budget and a blank canvas.

so what would peoples advice be on which year corolla (i like the ones around 83-86), what engine (anything, v8, sr, ca, what ever will get me sliding), suspension, gear box. everything id need really from start to finish for a sweet drifting set up.

or ultimately would a different car all together be better? I'm hoping not cause i love the corolla! i just hope 25 is enough.

thanks for any help

haha, how old are, you?

you have a 25k budget aye,

buy a ke70, ae71 or an ae86, buy an sr20det s15 blacktop manual halfcut

put an f series diff in it

use the box out of the s15 halfcut

put ae86 struts in em, get sigma lca's, 7+kg front springs, 5kg+ rear springs, kyb agx shocks all round, there short strokes

cambertops, an upgraded sway bar, a rear 4 point strut brace, and a front strut brace

rx7 4 pot calipers, need at least 17" rims i think for em, use jdm ae86 rotors as there bigger

and take it to the track

think i summed up a good setup aobut right aye people?

trav rx7 4 pots clear 14inch rims, sigma arms are only for understeering

and if your going to spend 25k on a car i think you wouldnt be putting cheap kyb shocks in it

get a s15 or if your set on a rolla get a ae86

definitely try and get a full or at least half roll cage in there too.

a newer car is almost always going to be better, but i reckon you should just get the model corolla that appeals to you most and build up from there.

cheers

which shocks do you think are better? i really have no idea about these things and am just looking for the best set up possible for that amount. ultimately my plan was to hunt down a rolling chassis and build it up from scratch.

ive been doing some primary investigation into the s15 half cut and its around 7k. is that the price i should expect to pay? or i should be able to get it for a lot cheaper? only leaves 18 for all the rest. i'll be able to do most work myself. but what is a cost breakdown for the other major components?

if you have the knowledge and ability to build this 25k drift car yourself,

surely you have the knowledge and ability to make up your own mind on what car and all other compenents to use?

for 25k I'm with GODLOVESUGLY, spend 10-15k on an already built car then spend 10k on making it your own AND BETTER.

ur money, your car, use your head not others.

cheers, scott

I'm into 4wd's and i know nothing about drifting so this is easily the best way to find out other set ups, what has worked for others, what hasnt, what people would do if they started from scratch after all they've learnt, rather than just jump into the deep end with no research and start wacking parts together on a car. then i could come on here and be like guys, i did this and it doesnt work, what do you think i should do to change that. and then others impart their knowledge and say - yeah that was pretty stupid... you could have done this right from the start and had no worries.

If you have your heart set on a corolla buy a built ke70 or ae86, alot come up for sale on ae86dc.

Are you planning to keep the car registered or a dedicated track car?

after more reading, id probably go with a sr20 and prefer registered. but i was reading the engine conversions sections. and someone said you can't register a rolla with a sr20 in it. so then dedicated track. i only plan to use to as a track car so it doesnt matter either way.

i already have a house red dwarf.

so enough about where to blow my money, what are some preferred set ups for drifting an ae86 with a sr20?

buy one thats already done.....

spent $15-18K on a complete car which has already had everything done, that way you'll have alot of cash plus have $7-10K left over for repairs

I wouldnt bother spent the left over on more upgrades because if your new to the "sport" you be breaking stuff on a regular basis

you can have a sr20 in a ke legally in qld

if i was you spend 10k and you will have a awesome ke70 that you can learn to drift and have fun, you don't need alot of power to get a ke70/ae86 drifting

where abouts are you?

i know this guy selling a white 4agze(supercharged) ke70
