Mickey H Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I'm trying to install a towbar on my van at the moment, and it doesn't have a harness for the trailer. I found a cable that had been cut off, it has 5 wires in it. Anyone here know much about trailers? not sure if it is a harness or not, and if it is, what wires to use when i connect a plug. any help would be appreciated  Quote
Croc Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 If you don't have a plug yet then work out what connection you would want to suit your trailer. round or flat plug small or large. All should come with a wire diagram. I have the wire diagram some where for a 7 pin plug. let me know if you need it. Quote

Mickey H Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 Thanks that does help, I'm not sure which one to use, all the new cars i work on these days use the 7 pin flat socket, but mine only has 5 wires, I'm guessing thats the standard, so is it compatible? I might have to get a workshop manual for my van so i can figure out what wires are what. Quote
Croc Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 your 5 wires will cover earth, brake tail left and right indicators. that will be all you need for most trailers Quote
KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 the new Australian standards for trailers will tell you everything you will ever need to know about a trailer. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/veh...1/vsb_01_b.aspx Quote
