crispyke35 Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 I would highly reccomend putting some form of wire or something on them. I have a habit of sitting the bonnet pins on the bumper bar or scuttle panel and forgetting about them. Have lost 2x set on Dirt now!!! However Tar has some like....http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SPARCO-RACE-CAR-BON...A1%7C240%3A1318 Which are great as you can't loose them. FYI, if all of the bracing is busted on your bonnet this will cause it to ride up a bit at 100kmh+. Thanks Taz_Rx Yeah i think when i get around to it i will install the ones like the sparco set you had a link to. also i'll attach some stainless wire to them and loop it under the bonnet. Cheers Jacob Quote
crispyke35 Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hi all I have been sick of looking at unpainted & trimless doors so i got to work and came up with and el cheapo (probably not legal ) solution to missing a door card trim. also matched it up with the existing interior. instead of looking for a new card i just painted them. still got to put some rubbers in to hold the window steady but this is how it looks so far. The boring crap looking doors. That black sealent stuff goes everywhere and sticks to everything when you hit it with the angle grinder and wire brush. All painted (also i have got rid of the over spray on the window) and installed Quote
corolla_nut Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hey, looking really neat so far! Good job with the respray, love the colour! Keep up the good work! Quote
crispyke35 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 Hi All, Finally something has been doing with the car. (uni seems to take all my time away) Well it was rego'd for another year but was skimping on the brake test. So after some mucking around i have ended up putting in new rear wheel cylinders, new shoes and a new brake master. I'm quickly learning that with old cars when one thing is stuffed there is normally 10 more you didn't expect  .haha. In the end i got some good brakes (as good a rolla brakes get anyway). The next thing is some ke70 calipers and some bendix front pads. Then i'll be looking to get some good rubber underneath.also got to chuck in new idler arms, tie rod end and pitman arm yah for some less steering play. I'll keep things updated. Cheers, Jacob Quote
JiP Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Looking good there mate. She is coming along just nicely  Quote
crispyke35 Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hey all :lolcry: After slaving away at uni for the past few months the corolla has hardly seen the light of day, so when i finished for the semester i was glad to get the beast back out for some serious work. When first getting it out of the shed i noticed i last left it with much not fuel, then came to the realisation the only fuel station in town had shut down, bugger. So i ran the risk and drove it to the nearest station out the road. I got within about 500m then it conked out and managed to coast a bit, the last 100m was left for me to push it into the petrol station along a main road. fun times. Well since last week in between working i have been getting a bit done ( and sorting out what needs to be done, I hate this part cause it sends me broke). As it was i had half finished the spray job and needed to do the removable panels, so been working on them. But not to let anyone down with lack of mistakes by myself i have another story. Went to pick up some parts for the car today (steering box + components, Borg warner diff and tailshaft, and front guard). All was going great then I got home and was getting the front guard out when looked at it and realised i had got the wrong side brilllant mistake by me :lolcry: , so being as I'm a bit remote I will be now doing another 510km trip to get the right one (they are overrated though).hahaha Anyway the rolla will be getting a big cosmetic and suspension make over soon, hopefully i will end up with something very fun, so check out this thread over the coming months Quote
crispyke35 Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Been traveling around a bit lately gathering a few more parts and also have been doing a bit of undercoating, keen as to get it finished soon. What do you reckon? New parts from none other then ebay.lol Preping the not very straight doors. although that bog is not very thick Undercoated, today Perfectly straight front guards, :2thumbs: just need a light rub back. Wheels 14x6 nice and wide, with good amount of dish ( at least compared to stockies) Cheers Jacob PS what do you's think Quote
crispyke35 Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) Bit of an update, been playing around with the bonnet pins and trying to fit them. It seems a bit of a task to get right. Also been doing some more spraying, finally got some colour happening. Getting ever closer to getting out of the multicolour car club. :) , also saving up some cash to restore the standard and a bit more suspension upgrade. It's been a bit slow but getting there Nearly fitted, note bonnet is yet to be painted Some purple yeah!!! , 1st coat at least Edited November 7, 2009 by crispyke35 Quote
crispyke35 Posted November 13, 2009 Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) Well project rolla is starting to come along a bit more. Today replaced all of the steering components from the steering box to the struts (everything was pretty much stuffed except the steering box which was perfect). The panels are starting to get ready to go back on, nearly up to final coat. Bonnet pins are fitted and look fantastic (will write a tech thread for anyone wanting to do this as i got heaps of pics), just gotta paint the bonnet. Plans are new shocks and springs all round, cusco camber tops (maybe strut brace as well), whiteline rear sway bar, fit mags with four new tyres, then it should be handling alright Edited November 13, 2009 by crispyke35 Quote
crispyke35 Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Been doing some more work on the rolla and so far have painted everything, now only needing a final coat on the bonnet. So close to putting all the panels back on but looking good so far Also started painting under all the guards before i put the front end together, basically revomed all old and flaking paint the sprayed it with penetrol to seal up. finally the bichamus black stuff was painted over with a brush to give it some texture. here are some pics so far before paint, had to remove a lot of old paint then it was coated with penetrol to seel it up first. After, cleans things up a lot Preview of the bonnet, also thinking of adding some purple strips to key it in with the rest of the car. A bit of fun, getto spec rolla before it went back in the shed for the arvo Quote
