New engine and 5spd yewww!! :P

Well this last two weeks it has either been raining or I'm at work which has made progress limited.

I got this weekend free so decided to fit the new engine and 5 speed gearbox i recently bought.

Original engine.

*el stocko 4k engine

*extractors leaking.

*bearing in water pumped stuffed.

*alternator bracket stuffed

*reconditioned alternator

*A fuel guzzling 4 speed box

New/donor engine

.*4k-c with all the emissions crap.

*reco head and shaved a bit

* 83 ke70 5 speed box.

After mixing and matching

*4k-c block , fuel pump, water pump

*reconditioned alternator

* none emissions carbie, thermostat housing and intake manifold

*none leaking extractors

*3k dizzy

*New spark plugs

* 5 speed box.

* new uni joints on the way + going to do a full service and tune up.

To fit the KE70 5spd box into a manual 1975 ke35. I had to modify the gearbox cross member and cut a new hole in the transmission tunnel 100ml back from the old one for the new shift stick. all went in pretty smoothly.

When it was all in there was some tense moments. went to fire up first time nothing but hot earth wires and flat battery.

doubled checked all the earth wires and tightened, turned the key nothing. pulled out the plugs (crap) put new ones in turned the key didnt fire. checked dizzy, points weren't opening, adjusted still didn't go. checked to make sure everything had spark, it did. Top dead centred it and corrected timing, fired up but wouldn't idle. ..

....then finally messed around with coil connections. fired up and ran great. yewww!!!!!

Here's what i got up to.

The original engine coming out.

The manifold gaskets i scored for free. even got the metal inserts to stop the exhaust blowing out. took ages to find but got them.

Thats an awesome colour for a coupe. Looks like a deep... is that about right?

Don't matter how slow you go as long as you make progress :y:

Yeah it's deep purple. glad you like the colour. cheers

Nearly forgot to add that I'm hunting a for a manifold to suit twin 1 1/4'' su's for a 4K engine, if any one has a spare or knows where i could get one. Apparently not mega common.

It was a pretty sweet find. talking to my unckle about carbies and he tells me has some su's just sitting under his bench. so if i can get a manifold the rolla might be a bit quicker lol.

Well here it is with the final coat of paint on the body (still got the panels to go :P ). still needs a cut and polish but i reckon it looks pretty good.

Here a couple of pics of the car and also a pic of the plate i have made up for the gearbox tunnel isn't fitted yet.

Final coat still with paper and everything on.

Gearbox plate and random oil pressure gauge my mate gave me, yet to be fitted. sorry about the state of the interior at the moment (wouldn't have any if it was legal :hmm: ).

Thinking of mabye putting in some hood lock pins. a bit worried about mashing up my bonnet but i like the look. if also had the bonnet pop up a bit (not fully up though) when driving along which was a scary noise.

something along these lines

Any recommendations?

My bonnet lifts up a bit when passing a big truck on the highway; feel the air catching up underneath it. Worn bonnet latch.

The bonnet pin set pictured on the right looks alright, with the rubber mounts; added security with the locks. Be a prick if the keys got lost.

The one on the right for the traditional look. Could get ones which have wire attached to the pins so they don´t get lost or knocked off.

Thanks for the comments.

Yeah ive had the same problem with trucks and when i pull my foot of the gas sitting on about 100. i'll have to look into the ones with the wire but i could probably crimp some stano wire on there i spose. good idea though because they probably would get flogged by some idiot.

Cheers Jacob

Hi all

i have finally had to put the car back together (mixed colour panels looks real class :) ). gave the new motor and box a work out though and so far everything seems to be holding out.

I would highly reccomend putting some form of wire or something on them. I have a habit of sitting the bonnet pins on the bumper bar or scuttle panel and forgetting about them. Have lost 2x set on Dirt now!!! :( However Tar has some like....

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SPARCO-RACE-CAR-BON...A1%7C240%3A1318

Which are great as you can't loose them.

FYI, if all of the bracing is busted on your bonnet this will cause it to ride up a bit at 100kmh+.
