the_random_hero Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Fit a 20V head to your engine - as far as I'm aware it should be a bolt in jobby. Instant quads, better breathing head, etc. Quote

Instant quads, better breathing head, etc. hi there mate, thanks for your reply. so are you sure i can just bolt on a 20v head on to my 4afe block?? i wasnt aware of this. cheers glen Quote
Bowler Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 All 4a blocks are the same more or less. (In terms of mounting points, they are. As such, all heads are interchangeable. However, the 4age blocks I believe are of a slightly stronger design, and if you plan on doing a head transfer, it would be easier to replace the whole engine, for the sake of making sure you have the stronger bottom end. Also, if you change the head, keep in mind that you well need to change the wiring loom and computer to suit.... Quote
toycsi Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 hi bowler, thanks also for your reply. is there any gain to try and fit just the 4age quad throttle bodies then ?? if so,how do i go about adapting t/bs to 4afe ?? cheers glen Quote
hilux05 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 on a 4age the main gain is (if the motor is left stock) the induction sound, so i guess an FE would be the same.... the down side is it will run rich... to get the most out of this an aftermarket ecu would be needed and also a nice set of cams (not necesary, but why not)... and like every other 16v an adaptor would be needed for the itb's for an FE when i get my 16v in my new keto i shall be making an adaptor, something like this: Richie. toycsi Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 hi richie, how are ya. thanks for the pic and reply. so where and who makes these adaptor t/b manifold plates please ?? how much also?? cheers glen Quote
Golberg Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I think you'll find nobody makes an off the shelf adaptor for a 4AFE just because its not a common engine to do up. That there adapter looks to me to be an APEX Engineering 4AGE bigport ITB adaptor. Quote
hilux05 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 yeah it sort of is (was) an apex engineering one.. Gilly's not getting them from malaysia anymore as far as I'm aware.. which is where that photo was taken from.. what you could do if your handy with a welder an really want itb's. is to then take off the inlet, trace up some sort of inlet flange, make it out of steel and wahlah. you have itb's  altho seeing as yours is FF.. is there even enough room?? i never looked in the bay of any corolla post 1984..
