trav_555 Posted December 13, 2008 Author Report Posted December 13, 2008 ok well i put in the elec dizzy today, got it all good, the mechanics apprentice helped me with it she runs beautifully changed the clearances to those reconmended and no way it was way too loud, and the idle went higher, or sounded like it did also with tach after putting in elec dizzy and high energy coil and ignitor the tacho jumps everywhere except after about 3000 rpm how can i fix that? is it because i took off the ballast resistor? Travis You can install a variable ohm resister inline to the tacho signal from the coil which helps steady the needle, Autometer recommends it with their tacho's if it is unstable. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 13, 2008 Author Report Posted December 13, 2008 ahh ok, how do i get one and where? cheers o and its not an aftermarket tacho Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Jaycar electronics or Dicksmith Quote
trav_555 Posted December 13, 2008 Author Report Posted December 13, 2008 is there a certain one i have to get? can get it today as i will be near dicksmith so do tell!! Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Used to have this problem a long time ago. Was points being too close together and spark jumping. Electronic dizzies still have something to adjust called an "air gap" on the magnetic pickup, try opening this up just slightly and see if the tacho get any better befor you head off to DS. :jamie: Quote
trav_555 Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 i wouldnt know where he air gap is mechanic would know right? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Yes mechanic will know. Just thought it might be worth a try befor finding/fitting a resistor. If you pull you dizzy cap off, you notice the is a little magnet that lines up with the 4x tags on the main shaft. the gap between these tags and the little magnet I speak of is the "air gap". You adjust it just like points. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 what should it be set to? Quote
KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I had a similar problem once with a electronic distributer I fitted a condenser to the negative side of the coil and it fixed the problem. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 a condenser aye, well how about the lil grey box connected to the red wire that came off the pos side i originally had on points dizzy, i heard its a condenser would that work? Quote
