trav_555 Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 yea cheers man, yea he set it to stock valve clearences, but i don't know the cam in the engine!!! i might contact ke ping it real and see if he can find out by the previous owner, if i can't would you reconmend i set it to what you have with your cam? cheers Travis Quote
rob83ke70 Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 if you have absolutely no idea what cam you are running, i'd probably have a go at setting it to say 0.35mm and 0.4mm inlet and exhaust. if its a bit big the engine will just be noisy. its fairly normal with a lumpy cam anyway to have bigger than stock clearances. way to tell for sure is to do a compression test before and after valve clearances are adjusted. robert. trav_555 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Report Posted December 6, 2008 what will change with compression test? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 The valve sealing properly. :P I have a Camtech 609 in Dirt with stock valve clearnace!! I might try doing this today if I get time too! :'( Quote
trav_555 Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 yes thankyou Taz_Rx so yours are set to stock, well he said my clearences were too loose so he did them to stock but now it has no power, so if i increase the clearences to 0.35mm and 0.40mm it should be better, I'm gonna put the ignitor and elec dizzy on tomorow hopefully it will have arrived in post tomorow, and then i will test it out and then i will get him to do those clearences instead unless anyone thinks this is wrong and should do something else?? cheers Travis Quote
rob83ke70 Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 the compression of each cylinder will change before and after the valves are adjusted because the valves will seat properly and stay closed for longer with the valve clearances adjusted correctly. electronic distributor and coil will make it start heaps easier and rev and run heaps smoother... been there done that too :P robert. trav_555 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 yea well ignitor didnt arrive today :P so i need to wait till tomorow arvo before i can work on it.... Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 The valve sealing properly. :y: I have a Camtech 609 in Dirt with stock valve clearnace!! I might try doing this today if I get time too! :) Tried this on dirt last night. Got her hot, did a comp test and found 150, 150, 100, 150. Bumped the clearances up to .35 and .40 and did another comp test....... 160, 160, 100, 175!!! So yes it did give me a little bit more compression, but number 3 is obviously pretty un-healthy! :P Doesn't even rattle btw! Quote
trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 did you find it ran better? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Nope. #3 not pulling its wieght probably explains it not running very well though! :P Quote
trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 ok, and did it seem like the extra clearance would hurt it, even in the long run? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Nah wasn't overly loose. I was half expecting it would rattle its head off, but didn't at all! Quote
trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 ahh sweet, well i shall get that done and give it a go then, cheers heaps man hope you fix cyl 3 too Quote
the_random_hero Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Tried this on dirt last night. Got her hot, did a comp test and found 150, 150, 100, 150. So yes it did give me a little bit more compression, but number 3 is obviously pretty un-healthy! :D Doesn't even rattle btw! Tried a teaspoon of oil down the cylinder trick? Sounds to me like you need new rings :P Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Yeah i'm not suprised at all, that bottom end has seen over 20psi! :D Quote
