if all the mechanic has done is oil and filter change and tappet adjustment.

highly possible he has incorrectly set the tappet adjust.

if you payed for this to be done i wouldnt bother mucking around with it and take it striaght back and get them 2 sort it.

cheers, scott

yea i will be tomrow, he said he also fixed some vacuum leak or something, though i don't remeber there being any vacuum leaks, and also he said i don't have all the bolts in my intake on and I'm like well i can't get to em cause of extractors now aye

but yea will take it back to him

is it called valve bouncing, cause it just feels like the revs are jumping around when it gets high rpm. and i used to feel the cam kick in around then

also car konks out when i change to a lower gear and push clutch just goes down and dies, *** annoying cause it makes it look like i stall it...

Valve bouncing is when you are reving the $%#T out of the car and it doesn't fire properly, I believe.

Yea, I have this problem occasionally and people laugh because they think I stall :(. If he was playing around with that "vacuum" leak, which

was most-likely to do with the carby, something may have gotten in there, like a bit of dirt and is blocking something.

What this guy did from NRMA to try and backfire the "shit" out of my carby when I called them up about this problem, was cross over TWO of the

spark plug leads and then started the car. He revved it to about 3-4k let it die down to almost a stall and then put his foot flat to the floor until it backfired.

This backfires the system and supposedly gets some of the shit and corruption out of the carby, which could be causing a blockage. My carby has a vacuum

problem and only 1 of the jets works. I'll hopefully be getting a Weber soon though :hmm:

Just get the mechanic to fix it until it's right, so you don't have to piss around with it anyway  Afterall, he farked it up!

EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU DO WHAT OniBerserker SAYS!

take the air filter assembly off before you do this

shoots a nice jet of cleansing fire out the carby

Sounds like a lazy mechanic to me!!!!

So rather than spending an hour to pull the carby apart and give it a good clean, he would rather put your timing out by 180o and possibly do worse damage to the engine!! :hmm: Intellegent.

well i should have the elec dizzy in this weekend i hope as ke ping it real is sending me his ignitor (cheers)

so that should get rid of any points bouncing that the mechanic is blaming it on

yeah well i was revving the darn out of it lol and i used to and it didnt do that, makes a weird noise wher like jumpy air out of exhaust, like a turbo kinda thing, but massive power loss

yea, two bolts on manifoldsre not on I'm trying to get them on, but engines hot so gonna do it tomorow

wish i had the cash id get me some efi goodness

cheers

thats what i reckon but i doubt he will admit it

got bill for it today, 163 bucks.....

he better not charge me extra to make it run at least as good as it was before

hopefully the ignitor will be here soon so i can finally chuck the elec dizzy in, then he can't blame points

I'm a motor mechanic. I'm going to offer my two cents, that the valve clearances were not set right. I have a reground cam in my 4k in the ke55, and if i set it to stock clearances i lose all compression when cranking, its hard to start and it produces a lot less power, but if set to what the cam manufacturer reccommends then the compression comes right up (along with audible valve noise) and it runs quite well.

stock clearances i think are 0.20mm inlet and 0.25mm exhaust. I think mine are set at 0.35mm inlet and 0.40mm exhaust. Have to be carefuel that its on the very most bottom part of the base circle of the cam lobe when setting them too. These figures are for a warm/hot engine...

I hope you took it to a general mechanical workshop not a dealership.... valve clearances and old cars are a bit of a lost cause with younger motor mechanics these days like what you would find at dealerships. You have to find a mechanic thats been in the trade a while, and that is really into cars especially old school performance mods and so on. It is difficult to find a mechanic that is really good, but they are out there. The number of motor mechanics that I would let work on my own cars I could count on one hand.... and I'm in the trade!!
