rundell Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Probably been covered heaps but hey just checking whats the best way to pull it out? With gearbox or without? And how long does it take about a day? Or does anyone in adelaide want to do it for me? :P haha Quote
Redwarf Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 1: Buy a manual 2: Doesn't really matter, box on or off. 3: I can have one out in less than an hour. By myself. The main thing to contemplate is your lifting device. I use a chainblock hung from the roof. Therefore bonnet needs to come off. If you use an engine crane, you can get away with leaving it on, but probably easier with it off. I've also used the piece of chain, six foot length of pole, and two strong mates method, but that one is far easier with the gearbox off it, although it can be done with it in one piece. Quote
rundell Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 Got myself a manual most of the engine is out already was just double checking. Thats what i was thinking using a pole and some chain and lifting it out but uncles got a engine crane so might give that a wack. 0hh hour awesome i just got sick of trying to get snapped bolt out of engine block so just thoguht it would be a lot easier to just chuck it and put in another 4k Quote

Depends what exactly you need to do. I can't stand doing bellhousing bolts in the car. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 yeap, take motor and box out in one.. Might be handy to replace throw out bearing, and spigot bearing if your unsure of condition... i didnt listen to that part and had to take motor and box back out same day cause the whine was horrible. D1doony Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 me and white_sandshoe ripped out a 3tc in and out running in just over 2hours. took us less time to do that then struts and rear spring shocks.. Quote
brandon_rolla_kid Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 what you doin with the old motor, how much would you sell it 4? and where in adelaide are you located? Quote
trav_555 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 undo everything and unplug everthing, easy as aye, i unbolted off gearbox, my mate that was helping me was going man why isnt this undoing, i look at him and I'm like man youve been doing it up for the past ten mins bro, had to re tap the bolt....idiot but yea go it Quote
D1doony Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) in perth mate plus 3tc doesnt bolt up to k series chasis without mods. plus its not my motor, plus its being used in another t18. Edited November 25, 2008 by D1doony Quote
bLinded_ Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I'd say you'd be much better lifting it out as one, then putting it back in as one. Much easier to line the bellhousing/clutch up on the ground then then trying to do it on your back under the car. with an engine crane you and a mate should easily be able to get it out and in within half a days work. I'd even remove the bonnet for the sake of only have to undo 4 bolts. Will make it a little bit easier to see what you are doing and give a bit more room to manoeuvre. And a little note: Make sure you remove the shifter before you start pulling the engine and box out! :P Quote
DearmanKE Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 just did this like literally just now, only just got out of the shower after washing off the grease lol not that hard with a mate to help gotta undo everything engine mounts, shifter, tailshaft, all wires, rad hoses and stuff, good idea to have the radiator out of the car if its not to much hassle, make sure you drain the gearbox oil first else as soon as you tilt the engine/box it will all pour out the tailshaft end aceelerator cable, clutch cable, choke cable, wire to coil, lead to coil, wires to oil pump and thermostat, 2 wires to starter, big thick wire near the alternater, earth wires on engine and gearbox, reverse lights plug at top of gearbox. get engine crane over it, make sure its attacted well at the front with a short chain/rope then to the baqck of the motor with a chain/rope that has a slight bit of slack so it tilts the gearbox down, last thing to undo is gearbox mount, then it wil tilt down and should stop beofr hitting the ground because the slack to the back of the motor wil be take up then jack up, pull out, jack up more, pull out more not to hard , a days work by yourself, a couple hours with a mate, Quote
rundell Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 cheers for all the help will have to give it a go tommorow jsut a lot easy to swap engines then try to get out a bolt stnapped in the block as nothing worked(N) ill learn this time not to snap bolts ahah.
