rjenman Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 cut stock springs have you done this and how does it ride? Quote
rjenman Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) not to sure on how legal or illegal they are. + all my springs have been cut Cheers you have an interesting way of justifying that after cutting your springs. edit - sorry i didn't read that its for a rally car, i read over it too fast. TE278U Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 We decided not to allow the recommendation to cut springs due to possible legal implications. how about any other illegal mods, such as unengineered engine swaps, turbo kits, wide wheels etc etc? how far do you have to go to protect people on a public forum? you could put a disclaimer on the title page suggesting all modifications are reccomended for off road vehicles only. a lot of the illegal mods suggested are probably safe, but you shouldn't be condoning any of them, let alone cut springs. -dave Quote
tas_ae71 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 agreed with te278u other sides have disclaimers. in a previous cut springs thread, a car was mentioned to have crashed because of cut springs (a spring popping out). i think the point was the it had normal stroke shocks and the springs popped out. it could have happened and would have been more likely to with stiffer/lower aftermaket springs. i think that seems to be the real issue with them. so right there you have some misleading information. I'm not saying that cut springs are not illegal or totally safe.. nothing is a garentee. i admit to my car is not technically road worth I'm many areas. how ever it can manuver and stop a hell of a lot quicker than it did when i got it completely standard. oh and fair enough about removing my earlier post.. Budowski Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) How does the car ride? What shocks? whats wrong with new stocko kings? were they "2nd hand" chopped???? edit - i just saw your avatar.... can't say they look chopped i just posted above how the car rides, it rolls less and turns sharper, nothing wrong with new if you want to pay full price the AE86 boys throw these away. 2nd hand but not chopped, if you get these chopped id be asking for them free. My avatar is before, ill try and find a pic of how it sits now. Used monroe GT gas in the front as there is nothing better to be found as no one makes anything better to suit the strut tube diameter. Using the same in the rear as i havent changed them yet more options for the rear. Topic was basically how to on the cheap so its starting to get away from being cheap. rjenman Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 yeah i'd hope so!!! (asking for them for free) saw some "chopped king springs" for sale on here (or ke70.com?) and I'm like hmmmmm... for sale eh has your paint faded or have you painted your car white and added black ears? Quote
tas_ae71 Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 has your paint faded or have you painted your car white and added black ears? bahaha!! the "ears" that you refur to are actually more commonly refured to as "fendor mirrors" and budowski, your car is massive high! Quote
Budowski Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 bahaha!! the "ears" that you refur to are actually more commonly refured to as "fendor mirrors" and budowski, your car is massive high! LOL! mine is the blue one. It once was as high like the white one. And for those who missed it my car sits massivley high in my avatar which is before the swap. One more ITS THE BLUE ONE!!!! for the cost of $70 and $10 new hub seals and grease ive got laying around, maybe some black paint for the dirty russty struts. The next step for me steering away from a low budget will be AE86 struts and heavier again springs. will look into the coil overs once i have some driving under the belt with the newer setup. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 (edited) no i understand yours is the blue car, and that in the photo's its lower than your avatar... I'm still saying its high. looks like its at the standard hight of most normal cars, instead of looking like it has a 2" lift kit that is a stock ke70 springs. i want mine lower, its still too high. Tally Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 yeah i'd hope so!!! (asking for them for free) saw some "chopped king springs" for sale on here (or ke70.com?) and I'm like hmmmmm... for sale eh has your paint faded or have you painted your car white and added black ears? HAHAHA the white car with the "black ears" is mine LOLOLOL.... Yea it is high casue I got rims (195/65/R14s) on the front and stockies on the rear, has cut springs all round, sorting out suspension at the moment. I'm gonna be running AE86 struts, power steering arms, 8kg springs up front and 4kg springs in the back, KYB shockers and some other bits... Quote
D1doony Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) chop them paint them a nice bright colour like red or blue or green or yellow new shocks will make a world of difference. can of paint $10 spring compressors $30 the look of habib in his commodore with you sitting lower than his vs on 20's priceless plus you can always go lower if your not happy with the height. ;D total cost $40... and about an hour or 2 work Edited November 27, 2008 by D1doony Quote
OniBerserker Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 hasn't this been covered enough chop them save some money and buy good quality suspension parts, the lives of you and your passengers are in your cheap ass hands seriously lowered springs and short stroke shocks are not really that expensive or just suck it up and drive a stock height corolla car modification is not for everybody Quote
