the_random_hero Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Jaycar do a thermo-switch kit, fully adjustable with hysteresis, etc. I don't believe they are too expensive either. The wiring isn't really that hard, IMO. When I have some time/money, I'll do it on the KE55 and do an article for you guys. Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 As only down side ATM is the radator needs to heat up before it switches.Cheers Cameron By the time the fans would need to come on the radiator would be hot anyway :bash: Quote
philbey Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I've been digging, given that I'll be fitting up my Fan this weekend and I don't want to spend 60 bucks on the Davies Craig unit. Cam, did you use the Jaycar thermal breakers with a preset temperature. Like This? I can't seem to find any adjustable ones here, you got a part number for it? Quote
Tally Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) I bought the Davis Craig unit... Its good and everything but I'm not real keen on the bulb thingo that you slot in the top radiator hose... On KE70 4K-Cs you have the emission hoses going into the temp thingo that screws in to the thermostat housing... Couldnt you just replace this with a switch that would fit fit? Would be so much simpler and neater.... You also have the temperature sender that is also screwed in to thermostat housing.... EDIT: Just read first page, my question is answered lol... Go to wrecker and find a factory switch that fits in... hmmmmm Edited February 10, 2009 by Tally Quote
Tally Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 ok so I found this: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5125 http://www.tridon.com.au/Products/Product....=483&P=2014 apparently, by what the tridon website says by the parts finder page is that KE70 4K has a M16 x 1.5 thread. There are only a few in that type but I guess it would be a way better option then the davies craig setup.. Also I have a question. What temperature is the ideal point to have a thermo fan cut in... and at what point is it on the stock temp gauge... Cheers Tally Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 philbey Sorry I lost this thread yes I have done 2 thermo fan conversions now KE15 and a KE30 so ill try to get ass into gear and write a how to and a few ways it can be done easy for you all tonight Also Tally KE7X came with thermo stock in EFI models and that. But go to super cheap ask for a new sensor  You will be out of pocket $82 if you buy it at my local super crap. So that is an expensive way to go......But I did it this way and Jaycar way. Jaycar weigh heaps cheaper ill add all this to my FAQ doova. Stock point on the K motor factory thermo was 74 degrees C. I use 85 degrees C on my system but on the KE30 and 74 degrees C on the KE15. Cheers Cameron Quote
parrot Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I did mine this way. With this you use a Toyota thermo switch available on any mid 80's on Toyota. If I managed to work it out, you can. Quote
philbey Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Parrot, thanks for that good link, I'll set mine up with a manual switch for the moment and head to the wreckers for a pocketful of thermo switches! Quote
parrot Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) Have a look at the various thermostat housings from assorted Toyotas of that period, SV11's SV21's, AE82, cressida's etc etc. I assume you have a K motor. I would not be at all surprised if you could find one that fits the K bottom housing and this means you have the thermo switch already in place. Of course you also need to check the top hose outlet direction is suitable. I had a factory rear drive cooling setup on my AE86 4AGE, and have incorporated a 4AC AE82 top section to do just this. Various other Toyota engine types had top sections that fitted the 4AGE just as well, only the hose outlet wasn't pointing where I wanted it. Bolt pattern was identical. camerondownunder88 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 My local wrecker wants $20 per thermo switch just letting you know. As He told me he knows what they retail for. Also Hyundi ones work good also and a million more there all similar. Cameron Quote
philbey Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 20 Bucks. Sounds fair I just had a look on the Tridon website, the Camrys and later model corollas all run an 82 degree thermostat. 3/4ks run the same, but 5ks run 89 degrees. I think I'm running an 82 Degree anyway, so if I run a thermoswitch from one of these later cars, I should have the right combination. More than likely the later model thermostat housing with the extra port for the thermoswitch will have the right thread too. Cheers. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 The thermo stat housing with 2 threaded holes will fit a M16 X 1.5 sensor. I run a 85 degree switch. Quote
