TRD ke70 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 the number is the throttle size and the letters denote the style,e.g doce side draught, ida down draught, big think is to know what size ventuires are in there, e.g 32mm or 34mm etc, the general rule is smaller the venturies the more torque low down, the larger the venturies more HP hi up. but there's alot of other factors that come in to it. like the cam in the rally car, it's a about 40-80 and you can still drive it around town in 4th at 50kms and it's happy. i'd never put a cam that big into a street engine, because it wouldn't be happy until your over 5 grand. TRD ke70 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 (edited) f@$k thats huge, what size engine? that cam i was talking about is a 57-83, with 280" lift. big duration Edited April 2, 2005 by TRD ke70 Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 it's too big, especially for a stock 4k :D i wouldn't put anything over dcoe/dhla40s on a 5k, it's not going to flow THAT much. you'd probably want the smallest chokes you can get it them too (32mm? there are some 28s around but very rare) some facts: the restriction point on a 5k is the valve size 25/65 is the best cam for a 4k-cranked engine Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 it's too big, especially for a stock 4k. "not a f@$king rotary... jackass" this isn't for a stock engine!!! f@$k you'd be lucky have the thing idle under 3000. i used the kelford f18 grind in my starlet and it was magic, have also tried a f 18 grind, has more lift but wasn't happy with it. i'd be interested in one of those stickers, or "it's not a f@$ken datsun asshole" sticker sorry MEL :D Quote
Xany Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 nick and i seem to think that my cam is around the same as his was. Cam Settings look to signature for what engine its in. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Just PM me any sticker requests. I have a pretty awesome turnaround time and good prices. Quite a few people have used me in the past and may be able to back this up :D My car idled at 900rpm but it sounded like a rotary. What are the specs for the F18 grind you were happy with? it's in the kelford cams chart, there's a small mark beside it. cam chart i'll PM request for a sticker soon. Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 xany's cam isn't too bad, it's down on torque but being in a 5k helps cover that up compared to a 4k, it's probably still better than say my or teddy's motor because of that. and it's gonna be better than stock no matter what :D Quote
coln72 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Sounds like you want to do what I have sorta done. I'm running a KE20 with a 5K. It is running a Wade 169 grind which I have lost the specs for  This cam allows me to rev past 7000rpm (have seen it past 8000rpm, but that was on the factory tacho which was optimistic). I'm still running the standard head but on a previous 5K port matching and a compression hike (shaved heaps but still able to run "super" back in those days) made a big difference to the torque. Current 5K is fitted with a 3KB manfold and a pair of standard Corolla carbies (bigger venturies) and 4 into 1 extractors and a 2" exhaust plus a few other mods. The above combination made around 3 seconds difference a our local autocross track over the standard 3K. Works out to be around 1.5s a kilometer quicker. Also at the last Challenge of Clubs, I ran 2nd outright in a field of 65 cars, behind a mini special so I think the combination works quite well. Quote
Redwarf Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 (edited) Gday Col, good to hear from you again! Rob Edited April 11, 2005 by Redwarf Quote
99 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Sorry Mel I'm not sure I can forgive that!! It's not the almighty Datsun's fault if they are so well known that everyone thinks that Corollas look like them!! But perhaps a forum purely about Corollas is not the best place to start that discussion, I may lose. :blinks: :D sorry!! but he started it!! Quote
coln72 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 G'day Rob. Long time no see since you left "mexico". Quote
