hey guys!

i need your help!

i am about to buy a ke30 auto as a project and am looking to do the works to it. i think i have most of my ideas worked out except the engine. i have been offered a couple of engines and can't decide what to do.

I'm not really worried about performance as such but more reliability and particularly an efi motor. the first option is an ca18de (i can always update by whacking a turbo on it later) or second option is a 1.6l worked motor (built for racing and would need to be de-tuned to make it street legal (also needs haltech computer and rings done)) from a nissan exa. I'm definately going to convert it to a 5spd. i havent got money to throw at the engine so what works out cheaper will probably win. ne way let me know what you think, or of any other suggestions.

cheers!

4AGE would be the best bet, they fit very well and can make decent amount of power if you opt for the GZE and throw a turbro on plus the fact that they are a toyota engine makes it even better. I'm running a SR20 in my KE30 but if i was going to do it all over again i'd go a 4AGTE

cheers! did you have any probs fitting the sr20? guessing it would be similar to fitting a ca18. did you do it urself or did you have it fitted for you?

Yeah I did the conversion my self. The few things that needed to be done was make new engine mounts, I have seen people use a combination of TA22 ones with the stock SR mounts.

I made my own so the engine sits further back which then meant that the firewall needed to be hit with a sledge hammer.

I’m going to recesses mine back 20mm though to so I can accesses the top bell housing bolts plus the fact it will look nicer.

The shifter needed a new hole cut in the floor as the SR box is bigger.

That’s really about the only things with my conversion that needed to be done but you will find that you will have to do most of that stuff with any engine you use.

Cheers Shaun.
