SLO-030 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 a while me thinks. already spent all of last weeks pay as of saturday night (5K, wendys, cougar and cola and petrol) hope fully the machine work and pistons don't blow the cost out too much. Quote
trav_555 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Yea i hope not. But it just means you will have to save a little longer I'm poor at the end of each week, i have been into the negatives once, and i payed off my 2000 in 5 weeks on stupid 2nd year wages. Just gotta sacrifice the little things for a while :) Get it done by christmas time, thats when I'm coming down. or make it so I'm down for the first start!!!! Travis Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 def be done before christmas. wanna bring me a 4 or 7K EFI setup when u come down? Just hoping the block isnt cracked as the drivers side engine mount is bent. doent have any oil seepage so all should be good. if it is we just got some welding rods for doing cast iron at work so i'll get the welder to put them to good use. Had oil ALL over the intake and exhaust manifolds. due to a loose rocker cover, dum dums :) Quote
trav_555 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 HA and where am i meant to find one of those!!! Ill have it for myself before i bring it down for you!! ahahhahahaha Make efi for it!! They do custom maniflods for 4age, just buy a flange and make it, put injectors int he end of it, weld some kind of nut or ssomething i dunno ahahhaha Ive never thought of it but it could be food for thought, ooo make a flange for 20v ITB's, Super sexy  You can check for cracking with the dye and stuff, ive never done it but ive seen it done to an aircraft engines head before Travis Quote
Tume Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Better not be done around christmas! You should be moving along faster then that. Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 5, 2009 Author Report Posted May 5, 2009 well i just found $150 in some cards i got for my B/day while going thru my room. Hopefully with a bit more it should cover the cost of machining. Then pistons. Then balancing. then seals. bolt it all together  Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Going by Dougs Reciept from Southcotts it should only cost me about $720 to reco the 5K Short motor inc Acid dip, bore and hone, deck, fit and align cam bearings Grind the crank new Pistons and rings Full gasket set All bearings New timing chain and gears New lifters Then add what ever Just heads chargeme to do the head. or $180 thru Southcotts. If only i got some Ruddbux, everything written above ads up to 900  Get a 3K head reconed at Just Heads, hopefully cheap thru contacts. Not sure what the compression wil be with the 3K head, will get in touch with Taz Rx :hmm: Edited May 6, 2009 by SLO-030 Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 CC the head and work it out mate. Also depends on how much dish is in the pistons you use. Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Pretty sure ACL have 2 dish sizes (6cc and 22cc going by memory) i shall be going the larger of the two :P From the last glance at the head it has a number 1 cast into it. had a looksy thru the FAQ and it says i have a 4K head. Now going by what i have read on here, Flat top piston 5K's have the same head as a 4K. Meaining i should have myself a flat top 5K. That said, if the above is actually correct all i should need to do is keep the same head and chuck in a set of dishys and hello to boostable compression :hmm: Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 Got a Quote from API engines today to do a full recon. $1700 :hmm: , keep in mind thats including pulling it down, doing all the work and putting it back together. I'm sure i could get it cheaper if i take it to them in parts and put it together myself. I asked about dished pistons. API use "columbus" pistons. has anyone heard of these and can vouch for them? The guy showed me the 2 dish styles they come in. One has a light dish that is the same size as the piston its self. The other was a heavy dish under the vales and spark plug. Gonna get a quote from southcotts, hopefully tomorrow. Also did the head gasket tonight. seems to have blown between 2 and 3 and into one of the water jackets as i was getting bubbles in the radiator. pulled the manifolds off and the gasket had blown out at one point on every exhaust port leaving only the perforated metal. Jasons brining over a replacement one tomorrow and hopefully getting a 1 piece extractor gasket from mick mid week :P Thanks to Jason (Jason KE30) for giving me a hand and Ash (sidewayz70) for emotional support and team back up. Good work guys Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Report Posted May 10, 2009 The 4K is purring again, sorta. Wont idle now, i thin thats due to me fixing the blown intake and exhaust gasket. now theres not a leak there, the back pressures building up as my diff has crushed my exhaust. hope to get that sorted out soem time in the near future. ALSO. Pulled the head off of the 5K yesterday. It has dished pistons. the pistons and chambers in the head look almost new. cyl 1 has some light surface rust down the 2nd cyl side of the bore and a little bit around the intake valve. apart from that, there is no real carbon build up, neither is there any oil sludge film like my 4K had. seems to me that it was a well looked after engine (or recently swaped) only the car it was in was treated like shit. SLO-030 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Report Posted May 10, 2009 Corolla is coming off the road for a decent amount of time. Coming home from Jasons place and i pass an unmarked car on my street. Pull into my driveway, turn off the car, hope out and the cop car was sitting at the end of my driveway. on the wrong side of the road of course. asked if i was on a certain road today. i told him i wasnt (which is true). then was a real prick saying he'll check the complaint if i wanna play like that. anyways, Got done for tyres (again), exhaust leak (just fixed it numb nuts), seats not secured ( my arse), oil leak (dizzy O-ring), steering wheel (fair enough), passenger side front side indicator (wires got ripped in accy) and air filter (yea yeah). Car is NOT allowed to be driven AT ALL and has to be trailered if it has to go somewhere. ATm i don't know hweather part it out and find a clean shell or to keep it Quote
trav_555 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 That sucks, i suppose its if you can part it out good enough/ quick enough and actually be able to find a different shell, that sucks, heaps sorry to hear man. Chin up aye. Travis Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 IMO KE30 can be found cheap enough in decent condition to justify buying a cleaner car/shell. Keep what you want/need off the currently car and sell the rest. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Holy shit! As if a cop can do that! That's totally messed up aye. Kinda weird too because there was a cop car in my street earlier on today. Kinda gave me a weird look when i drove past him. I think you should just find yourself another clean ke30 dude. Get rid of it, i think it's caused you enough trouble as it is. Quote
