SLO-030 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Report Posted January 24, 2009 Nah, go for it man. OK, so yesterday morning (saturday) Luc came round and we got to work starting the fuel system install. We ran the loom tube containing 2 12gauge cables to supply power for the lift and fuel pump and also mounted the hi presure pump. Alot of planning went into where the Hi pressure pump would be mounted (behind the rear seat, under the rear seat or in the boot somewhere) Initially it was going to be in the boot then after pulling the rear seat out and debating where exactly it should be mounted we decided to mount it back in the boot. Pretty much on the edge of the spare wheel well, as close to the fuel tank as possible. The original board in the boot covers it pretty well, but needs the vinyl (soon to be carpet) to cover the bracket for the pump. Pics coming soon Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Still don't understand why you're doing an un-neccessary fuel setup. Whatever you spent on a surge tank, EFI pump, RR reg (as you now HAVE to run a return type RR reg - are you aware of this?), and additional fuel line was a complete waste of money!!!! :hmm: Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 With this project, its not so much about the finished product its actually doing things. I mean, I'm gonna enjoy the finished product, but i really love doing all the technical stuff. I don't see why i have to run a RR reg as I'm doing a Draw thru setup. Neither do i see why upgrading the fuel system seems like a bad thing Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 I parked on a gutter while at Greenmac80's place. The rear drivers side wheel looked DUMPED haha Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Dude I admire your enthausiasum! :D Don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at you. You're learning the same way I did by trial and error, and at the end of the day working on your car is what you enjoy. But part of your learning process is taking advice from other people! ...right that said: Yes your right upgrading your fuel system is a good thing. Infact for what your planning its mandatory. BUT, although it will work, what your doing is not the right setup for what you're building. Its basically just overkill (and added expense) IMHO. When it comes to fuel setups for carby draw-through, you might aswell forget the turbo is even there!! This is because the carby is obviously not under boost. Hence you only need to supply it with adequate flow, at a low pressure as you would a naturally aspirated carby. IE a Holley red or Carter green (70'ish GPH @ 6'ish PSI) would be plenty for a 4kzc, ideally with a normal old pass through regualtor. With blow-through you need to run the fuel setup you're planning, with a RR reg because the carby is under pressure and "you need more fuel pressure than boost pressure". The reason you will NEED to run a RR reg is because the main EFI pump is going to be putting out over 50psi and you can't just put back-pressure on it with a pass through reg or it'll shit itself. It you don't run a reg at all and just run it straight into the carby then your SU will most likely look like a high pressure water fountain!!! The thing that you're forgetting about a RR reg is the fact that it has a RETURN line. This means that (with a Malpassi CARBY RR reg) your fuel comes into the reg at high pressure....and out at a pre-set low pressure (say 3-15psi) by diverting excess fuel out through the return line. As you come on boost fuel demand grows and the amount of fuel returned to the tank is reduced. Do you now understand what I'm trying to say? Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) Yea mate, Now i do. Many thanks. Soo. id be better off finding a Holley Red or Carter Green? Rather than using the VL pump i have. Ditching the VL pump is no real loss to me. I paid $11 at the wreckers. Douch thought it was a Mechanical pump. Just like he thought the 3K-H carb i bought for my 25 was a single barrel = Cheaper for me :D Edited January 27, 2009 by SLO-030 Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Correct. :D Low pressure pump and a reliable low pressure pass through regulator. Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks for enlightening me Si, much apreciated. Just had a quick squiz on what people are asking for Holley Reds on ebay :) Anyone got one layin around? or in the junk draw? :D Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Extractors :jamie: $150 FTMFW. Cheers Jason (bmxsexmonkey) Money sent off yesterday for SC and associated mounts, pulleys etc. Been told to look at Mini places as most of them used electric fuel pumps. which suprised me. Quote
Jason KE30 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 well there is a mini place on south road, edwardstown. you should check that shit out! actually come to think of it, there was a stripped down kesev out the front of there the other day :jamie: Quote
smeetsy1 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 same extractors as mine :jamie: spray them flat black, they look 1.1 million x better :hmm: Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Yea, Minisport. I seen that kesev earlier this week :jamie: Quote
