And like always the project goes back on the stands ..

This time around looking at upgrading the front suspension components before summer starts!

I know this is going to hurt many ke1X lover but I managed to get KE17 fine thread tie rod ends!!! hahaha When the guy said that he managed to source some i was like... :| .. :D

It all started with a blown head gasket, got the head reco'd, the webber reco'd, the STEERING BOX reco'd haha that was interesting to see the play.. :S

In short things that will be done or have been done:

-Steering Box

-Carburetor

-Head work

-Upgraded to KE70 front brakes

-TIE ROD FINE :P

- Some new rubbers ( less wind noise :P)

-Sway bar cut shorter so does not foul the brakes.. n yeah.. thats about it..

-Had some bits sandblasted and powdercoated

-Center console clock :)

Things that want to be done:

-Diff gears and LSD... Any ideas or places to go?

-Front lip? yes or no?

anyway two photos are the Tie rod ends and the handy clock work.. The clock actually worked but karked a bit later on.. need that fixed as well..

Cheers Amar

Nice work on the tie rod ends. I've got a set kicking around ready for fitment as well haha.

Just a question, where'd you get your steering box redone? I've got a KE20 unit that I'll pop in but I might look into geting it reco'd as well. Dare I ask what that cost you as well?

LSD, you can fit the toyota 5.7" inch into the stock diff, but you will need starlet axles; i think U or X series, I will double check for you.

I really don't see the point in a LSD in these diffs.. The axles are so weak, and if you get like billet axles or something the uni's are so small you'll just break them anyway.. Get bigger uni's you'll smash the centre..

I'd track down a TA22 diff :)

Disagree

I have a factory LSD in my AE86 which is driven sensibly, and the LSD transformed it.

Of course the problem is in sourcing the components, they hardy grow on trees and will likely have to come from Japan.

I have a spare TE27 T series rear housing which I have vague ideas of putting in the KE15 at some point.

Edit: I'm also very keen to hear some more about your steering box overhaul! And where did the tie rods come from?

I'm not debating that an LSD is/ isn't a good idea, I just think for the outlay it's not worth it on a factory diff..

Lol the photos will come once I finish it .. getting some new lenses as well so :)

Well information about the steering box is limited because I don't know it either :P .. I handed it over to Peter R. he said he would take care of it for me.. Said around the 300-400 mark..

I called around and got told 330.. but he said thats without looking at it.. Sooo once I find out what the go is ill inform.. Mine was quite screwed lol.. soo minght not be fixable..

yeah the diff ill have to research more on so that I can comment atm .. kinda clue less - regardless thanks for the info. and yeah if you could Phil that would be great. :) One important thing for me was the gearing... because my 1st gear is like ..

SUPER short haha great to take of n change!!! :P .. just figure that i might as well if i will be forking out the cash for the gears :S.. :)

Tie rods were sourced by Nathan at Advantage Suspension .. great bloke.. no bull n knows his stuff.. Always has great cars around the joint.. :D

Good old Pete, I'm guessing he's probably got spare parts to rebuild those steering boxes stashed away somewhere haha. Say hi to him from Tom Philbey, tell him my ke16 is going great.

haha stil not sure if a he or she.. depends how hard I drive her :P haha

yeah.. the cutting it up is what will hurt most.. :P so probably not.. Ill get the nose lower and maybe widen those mazda rims more :)

Cam is all done.. rebuilding the carb.. now . opinions on the flywheel? lighten or not? I like the idea of a easy revving engine but wouldn't that just be in neutral? Considering the weight of the car, compared to the small spinning weight of the flywheel? yeah..

lighten the flywheel and yes you get it to rev free'er(?spelling) but you lose torque (momentum) that is created by the heavier flywheel.
