Hey guys, just picked up my ke70 today. It's in pretty shabby condition and needs some work, got rust eating through and all sorts of little shit bits. I intend on doing most of the work myself as financial wise I'm in a drought, so any tips on fixing any of it would be very useful and appreciated. I'll get pics up of it later tonight after work. For now, can some of you post your before and afters so i can see exactly who's advising me? Thank you

Dave

buy a metal wire drill bit, 80grit sand paper and 240grit sand paper, rust converter and a kilo of bog.

if its something like a mud guard get rid of all the rusted metal then get the drill in there and wire brush it until its as clean looking as possible

then apply a decent amount of rust converter and let it soak in for about an hour.

finally you can just mix up the bog and apply enough to get fully into the hole you just made and have a little excess coming out so you can sand it back to perfect. get it smoothish with the 80 grit then smooth it off with the 240 grit.

you may want to buy some paint to cover it up as well but make sure you get the exact colour because it looks shit if its not.

i did this all over my ke70 and it looks freaking great and only takes a day

Thanks for the advise mate. Will give it a shot this arvo. Did you happen to get any before and after shots? Theres only two real places that the rust is eating through and thats just above the left hand tail light and the left rear quarter guard... not too much but yeah, looks pretty feral.

Just stripped the interior, took the filthy carpet out and am currently in the process of replacing it... anyone got any ideas of how to get the mould from the old carpet so i can put it into the car nice and snug?

If there are rust bubbles inside the car in the corners of windscreen just above the dash.... run, run far far away

ROFLMAO how weird i ve got a mate, his name is david and we call him "d styles"

how weird

anyway sick ae71 good luck with it

haha yeah, that is weird.

thanks. like i said guys, any help would be appreciated. Main concentration at the moment is getting the body work all tip top... then sanding and priming, undecided as to what colour i want it.

And cutting stock springs... recommended or not? Yeah my budget is VERY tight.

Well one tip, you can make new rear arches by cutting up some front guards and welding the arch in. But I guess ultimately you can "fix" all rust with bog but don't expect it to last more than about 6 months before it bubling back out. Do it properly, do it once.

Please don't cut the springs though, really bad idea. If you hunt around on the forums you'll find suspension packages for really good prices. I got a set of lowered springs for $50 then went to a wrecking yard and got some commo wagon rears for $18.

Yeah, its it the same case around the left rear light? Cut a piece and weld? Just don't know where i'd find it seeing as its attached to the entire body, unlike a door or front panel etc...

Hey guys. Since I've had little to no interest in the sale of this, ive decided ill keep it and make it into the KE i wanted.

Played around in photoshop for a few minutes, just some silly mock ups of how id like it to look. Any tips on helping me get there would be greatly appreciated.
