JiP Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 After my car was broken into I was told that I can have something done to my doors so that they can't be unlocked through the window. Something blocking the gap between the window and rubber. I'm not too sure how it works. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Hay mate sucks to here about your car........on my Ke70 i got solex locks and a kill switch. putting a proper alarm in soon.... don't you think its kinda weird that they brang it back????? I reckon it was someone you know if they brought it back. Not the mark of a seasoned joyrider or theif. One of the neighbours will have a story to tell. Quote
love ke70 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 get one of the alarms off ebay, they come out of the same factory as all the ones you will buy in autobarn and what not anyway :y: Quote
corolla_nut Posted November 9, 2008 Author Report Posted November 9, 2008 LittleRedSpirit: Points for theory, but I barely know anyone in Orange! Our street runs parallel to about two blocks of a bad area. We're assuming it was someone from there. We just think that it was weird where it was parked. It would have been quite difficult to push it into such a park. It looks like it was driven there. There's a couple more k's on it then there was before, so they've probably taken it for a lap or two around the local area. Only thing that worries me (although it's a good thing) is that they didn't do anything to the car. wtf? Quote
seabiscuit Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 (edited) Only thing that worries me (although it's a good thing) is that they didn't do anything to the car. wtf? This happened to me when my KE70 got stolen - the only thing damaged was the ignition, car steering lock and plastics surrounding it. My $20 was still in the ashtray, glovebox wasn't opened, sunglasses, etc. were still there, although unfortunately my schoolbag was stolen :D The cops told me that it wasn't unusual for a car to be undamaged as most car thieves only steal it for a lift to, and occasionally back, from town! Still is a prick of a thing to happen when your car gets stolen. :D Oh yeah, and best thing to scare off thieves is an alarm (a really loud one). My friend put TWO house alarm sirens under the dash. The noise is ear-splitting 5-10m from the car, so even if the thief gets in the car, they'll pretty much die of blood loss from the ears :y: Edited November 9, 2008 by seabiscuit Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 That sucks, the only advice I can offer is a decent alarm, and maybe replacing the locks with something slightly different, from a different model........ Solex locks are known to be able to be opened using the master key from a different set, so they're not quite as secure as you're led to believe......... It does take a bit of a fluke to get a mismatched solex master key to open your lock, but it can happen........ In this order: 1: Alarm/immobliser 2: Big dog chained to car 3: Cricket bat (it's more australian than a baseball bat) Best of luck, hope the cops do their job and catch the bastards....... Quote
Jono.B Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 My Personal favourite is removing the lead from my coil to my Dizzy, in fact one night I walked out of a friends place to see some filthy little shyte trying to start my car and looking quite cofused, needless to say after watching and laughing for a couple of mins I went a dealt to him, my precious green zombie remains safe again :y: Quote
orangeLJ Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Solex locks are easy to get around, don't waste your time and money. Alarms and immobilisers are good detterants for the run of the mill kids trying to steal cars and go for a joy ride. If someone is experienced and wants your car enough, you wont stop them. A few things to think about- Isolators- fuel and ignition work well, multiple isolators work the best. they may find one, but might not find the others. If you run an electric fuel pump, then you can easily isolate that, aswell as isolating the coil. If you run a mechanical pump, it is easy enough to put a "tap" somewhere in the fuel line to isolate fuel supply. isolating elements of the enigne are a basic principle that work well to deter most theives. Alarms are again, just a detterant most can be disabled very quickly and without too much fuss. How many times have you heard a random car alarm go off and not thought a thing! If you are nearby to your car, then its a different story, but in general they scare the kids off. Immobilisers are also a good idea, but easy to get around in a short period of time. If you do get an alarm system, don't put the supplied stickers on the windows, it just tells the theives which wiring diagram they need before breaking in. Club locks are good ol' fashioned protection and still remain as one of the best methods of keeping your car safe, people just rely on their alrms too much these days! Quote
trav_555 Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 honestly all these switches and taps and crap, its all not really worth it, get 3rd party fire and theft and get an alarm/immobilizer or just do what i do and turn music up full before i get out of the car, so that if someone turns it on it freaks the shit out of em, people turn around and look and they piss bolt. simple as but yea, sorry to hear mate id hate it if someone stole my car i think id pin em down and grab the steel pole out of my boot Travis Quote
love ke70 Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 talking of this reminds me my ke70 with the 1g was parked around the back of a workshop in lovely coopers plains. parked there sunday arvo, rocked up monday morning to meet the workshop with the keys etc, doors were unlocked, ignition barrel had had the 1 screw taken out of it so they could just turn the ignition with a screwdriver, no forcing the key barrel required, but it was still there... the reason, was a killswitch in my battery line that ran from boot to starter. this was only held down by 2 screws, then you just flip it over and bridge the terminals and your away. theyd lifted the rear seat tracing wires, but somehow didnt think to check the killswitch....genius' best bit about it was they left my refidex on the bonnet haha, must have been looking for where they were going. so yes, immobilisers and killswitches will stop petty idiots, no matter how simple the device.
