Ben-89 Posted December 27, 2009 Author Report Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Drove the ae71 around yesterday from Greensborough to Campbellfield, then Back to Greensborough then to Ringwood and Kilsyth and home again before going to Thomastown on a task of finding some parts but had no luck. Anyway the drive though was preety good. My mate was quite impressed with how relaxed the car drove up through the hills etc, etc, as he has a vs Commodore. I filled a full tank of fuel on Friday night and did the majority of driving yesterday while today was little. A total of around 170km has been covered and the gauge shows I have just under three quarters or just over 1/2 half a tank of fuel left. Is that preety good economy for an 1.6 auto. Its not driven hard, but has had the occasional kickdown needed for overtaking. The plugs and dissy components are new, but the air filter, fuel filter and oil will be replaced shortly. Personally i think the city runs are a bit better than highway as the car isnt revving as much at 100km, If I get 200km to half a tank i'll be happy, and that should equate to say 10L/100km? If I didnt sit on the Ring Road it would have had better economy I'm guessing. Opinions appreacited. Bought some Septone Wheel paint to repaint the faded wheels and Forever black for the bumperbars which came up perfectly, will add some photos. Since the car had been on the road I havent had a decent photo with it, so here is a couple. Myself and dad. Before. Now. Edited December 27, 2009 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
Paul Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Constant 100-110km/h is good for 4A-C auto fuel economy. My old AE82 used to get close to 350km from a tank around town but the one time I drove it to Winton and back I got over 450km out of the tank. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Hey mate congrats on rego and all. Great to see her on the road again. My 55 hardtop is getting roughly 10L/100km. It would be way better if only it was a manual! Happy motoring. Matt. Quote

Once its gets a proper service like new air and fuel filters along with oil and oil filter it should improve it again. Because the mobile mechanic already the plugs, points, rotor button and condensor with denso or Toyota item that I saw they are okay. I like manuals a lot, but this is growing on me every time I drive it as dosent struggle to get moving along. Only on the freway it gets a bit vocal but I can put up with the sound of a 1600 though. We should get some other Corollas together and head for photos somewhere... Quote
Jesseb369 Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 I love that man. This is the third time going through your entire thread. I cannot get enough. What's next man? A Panel Van or something? Comon, just do it already  Ever considered getting another ae71 for a go fast, handling beast with an engine conversion and lowered with all the suspension work for just a stunner car? That would be awesome. I want a sedan and a Panel van and another sedan but a done up one. So you have two presentable rides and one spectacular ride which is crazy and clean. Quote
Paul Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 He's not into fast things :y: I'm trying, he needs to come up to the paddock and drive the skyline  Quote

Hey hey hey Jesse, settle down there! Two cars are enough. The red one my daily and the white one for the occasional runs. I like cars that go fast but I have more important things to save my money for. It may sound weird, but I like things that are orginal especially if they are mine. Maybe if I had a big lot of land with a big shed like Paul I'd probably haud all these ke30-ae71 Corollas and keep there for 20 years in good condition so they go up in value... In terms of me modifying a car, it would be never ending put it that way. Because once you start you can't stop! Glad you like the thread mate. Quote

I'm still up for the Skyline too, don't worry.. :y: Quote

Ben-89 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) I found a left hand mirror toady, but its off a Corona st 141. It needed a little modding for screwing on but with some drilling and test fitting it works perfectly. Looking at it from the outside is barely noticeable as it sits quite nicely in the corner of the door frame. Making the existing holes larger to suit.. Holes are aligned, even though photo dosent do it justice. Mirror is secured. Now lane changes can be made a little easier. Removed adjusting knob so it matches the drivers side mirror. And its done! Ben-89 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Alright, a few minor updates have been done. The first resonator was rusted out internally and rattled worse than a saucepan lid on full steam, at first it was bearable but then it just progressed and got worse. So a quick trip to the exhaust shop soon solved the problem, $80.00 for a brand new hotdog fitted. Couldnt be happier with it. After bringing it home I gave the rest of the exahust system a coat of that aluminium paint to freshen it up.... looks wonders. While I was under the car, I also noticed the car has as new rear shockers as they are spotlessly clean looking. Now it makes sence why the car feels so nice to drive in.. There was a hundred dollar difference between exhaust shops around the Heidelberg, Greensborough and Briar Hill area. But one exhaust shop I recommend is Muffler Magic in Clements Ave off Grimshaw St in Bundoora, cheap price and good customer service. Time for some photos.. 78_7kRolla Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Very nice to see more progress Ben. I find that monroe gas we fit to customer cars are usually very good. Obviously not for going around twisties but for everyday driving they are the goods. One less thing you have to do i guess. Quote
ke70dave Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 very very nice car! youve done a fantastic job getting it to this stage! gota be happy with it. just a Quick Q, how well does the corona door mirror fit on the outside? i cannot find a LH mirror anywhere for my car....and I'm sure there are plenty of coronas at the wreckers near me.
