Ben-89 Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 What sort of consumption does your Ae71 get ? Hi Des, the ae71 averages between 9.5-11.5l/100km. Personally I think it could be better, but being an automatic and having an autochoke which takes a bit longer to go off than a manual type its not too bad. Also a majority of my driving is city cycle which wouldnt help. I've sat on the freeway with it and its bearable, but still it would have an effect on the fuel economy due to having 3 gears. I don't thrash my cars, but occasionally I give them the "cleanout". I gave it new oil, oil filter, air filter, leads, points, rotor button, plugs, timing belt, timing is 110% perfect and gave the carby some carby cleaner. It runs smooth and is responsive so I pleased regardless. Quote
Ben-89 Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 Two cars are plenty for me Jesse, they're headturnes as they are. How is you're one coming along? Quote
Johno Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Dude, both those rollas are so clean but the 70 is just outstanding! ;) I love how the ae71 came up after a bit of elbow grease. I have seen alot of e7's cut, welded, dumped and modded heaps but these two rolla's are wicked just the way they are. Hope to see you on another cruise soon ;) Cheers, Johno Quote

Ben-89 Posted May 18, 2010 Author Report Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) I had enough of the drone with the sports muffler on the ae71, I think being coupled with an auto didnt help the matter either. So I put the standard system back on and am very pleased to leave it as is now The 71 is sporting a set of new tires in preparation for winter as the previous cheapies on there were diabolical in the wet - enough said! and a set of brand new reproduction head light covers all for $30.00, couldnt be happier. Exhaust change over again. Voila. New tires. New headlight covers. The diff, fuel tank and front steering components have been given a few coats of gloss black after these pics were taken, so more will be added. Edited May 18, 2010 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
sean073 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 The interior was in need of some attention, so with a bit handy andy, hot water and a rag off came all the build up of grease on the steering wheel, front door cards, arm rests, console, etc, etc. Then a good thorough vacuuming was in order which a lot stuff was vacuumed out, then lastly mum cleaned up the seats and now they are as new. Only the drivers seat has a tear in the back rest which will be reupholdstered at some stage. Before After Dad finshing the body after welding... After finishing welding, treating, priming and painting the paint will be cut back so its bleneded into the surrounding paintwork for nice finish. very nice Quote
Ben-89 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 I was going through some old photos, going as far back as 10 years - Millenium year and when I got my learners permit. There are past and present cars. Toyota Liteace - great van, indestructable and went on and on no matter how hard the job was. But with rust, blown head gasket and cracked rear leaf spring Sims metal it was only destined for. I learned cluth control in this at the age of 11, including 2nd gear take offs! Year 2000 Year 2003 or 4 Corolla ae82, replaced the Liteace. Had it in the family 5 years now, feels so long ago as I was 16 then. Year 2005 Corolla ke70, photo is from 2002 when grandpa still had it. Had colour coded ke55 mirrors, ae82 cs wheel covers, no headlight covers, ventetian, corolla pinstriping. The interior of course had the obligatory carpets piled on top another, along with the notepads, pens and other goodies that an old person has in their car along with gt stipe seat covers. Quote
Instigator Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) It's refreshing to see a standard/concourse style user on this site. Cars look great mate! Geez that 4acs thirsty. I get about 7.5l/100 out of my bigport 4age and it cops a hiding here and there ;) You shouldn't need a website to work it out either. Just move the decimal place in your kms two places to the right. EG: 38 litres - 530kms 38 / 5.3 = 7.16l/100km I do it on my phone every time I fill up :D Edited June 2, 2010 by Instigator Quote

Nowdays they become more of a stand out car I think. I agree with the fuel issue though, it averages around the 10l/100km mark which matches what car magazines discovered at the time too. Ironically I went to a carby specialist and mentioned the car had new plugs, points, condensor, rotor button, oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter and that the timing was 100% on the mark and told him it was driven "normally" not thrashed, and he said how many litres to 100 do you get? I said 10L to which he replied thats about normal 1.6 auto so I wouldnt waste money tuning it because thats the best its going to get. However, recently I achieved 8.5L/100 which was better again. Personally I'm not a fan of the auto choke as it stays on too long from what Ive experienced, 2-3km down the road after letting it idle for 1 minute the choke is still on, so no doubt it dosent help the issue, however thats mysteriously been solved after detailing the engine. Maybe I knocked off or back in place a hose or plug as the car dosent idle so high when its cold in neutral or pull so hard when its stationary in drive. Quote
Ben-89 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 What revs are you doing at 100kph ? If this is in reference to the ae71, i'd say below or around 4,000. It dosent have a tacho so I'm only guessing. According to motoring magazines, auto ae71's used the manual diff from the ke70 due to its better acceleration and take off. However taking the edge off the open road performance and efficiency. Theres probably a way of working out he rpm but I have no clue. All I know is the car has the standard 175/70 r13 tires with a 4.11 diff and 3 speed auto if that helps working out rpm. Quote
rjenman Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 To me having a overrated KE70 is like having a overrated Tupperware container. Quote
Paul Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 lol, ben you're driving tupperware with wheels. jk. Quote
Ben-89 Posted June 4, 2010 Author Report Posted June 4, 2010 (edited) To me having a overrated KE70 is like having a overrated Tupperware container. People collect overrated Tupperware containers as well:lolcry: Sought after or not, they are harder to find as all the jdm kamikaze drifters hack the crap out of theirs in order to be different. They are style in themselves - bog standard, and will become more apparent as time passes. :abuse: Paul, My Tupperware is ADM, not JDM :P so its even better!
