toms.AE71 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) hey fella's, ive got an ae71, just wondering if an 1.2 nissan engine would fit straight onto my 5 speed manual box. as my 1.6 is not soo cool, and this 1.2 has twin webbers seeing if it would work. would i need an adaptor plate. I know of an escort 1.6 thats getting roughly 160hp at the flywheel with a formula ford kinda spec. Do you have a budget?, might find somthing if there is a price range. LittleRedSpirit Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 4afe bottom end, bigport head, plus turbo. Cheap decompression and turbo it hard. Perfect for a burnout car. Boost and a bottom end you can lunch and go again cheaply. Just a thought.

styler Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 its not an easy task nor wise in many ways but say you just had to do it then get the nissan gearbox to suit! theres no way you want to adapt the difficult option of bellhousing/clutch/flywheel rather than using the much easier option of a shifter/tailshaft/cross member by using the nissan box, just a thought...

FFFFFFFFAAAAAAAARRRRRRRKKKKKK YYYYYOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU i see your pain dude :) if you really want that engine id use the mounts/gearbox and just get a tail shaft modified that would be cheaper than a bellhousing adaptor/flywheel custom and clutch. last tail shaft i had modified cost 300-400 and then you would be looking at the labour to possible fabricate a gearbox mount or just modify the one that comes with the gearbox and the same with engine mounts the rest is easy fuel is already there and so is electrics. Have a look here might give you some answers http://datsun1200.com/modules/news/ I'm sure these guys would have done the T50 box to a A12 or being Datsun they would be more likely to use a nissan silvia box or bluebird 5 speed ? I look forward with interest to a tech post explaining how you did it when it is finished...... You have of course done some preliminary measurements, worked out for example, how you will mount the starter motor into the bellhousing when the non crossflow head means the exhaust and carburettors are on the same side as a 4A starter in a AE71. So obviously you will require a custom bellhousing which makes the whole proposition ridiculous. You can consider this post 'help' by encouraging you to forget the whole idea. Next time think about it first. If you were planning to put a higher power engine in, then perhaps custom bellhousings would be worthwhile, and I am sure if you have a brief search here and on google, you will find plenty of examples.
