Yes it is a problem if you don't fix it.

If you're any good on the tools, a couple of hours to change the gasket. (My personal best is 45 minutes.) That's if it's just the gasket, which it probably is.

I suggest that if you have the head off, to take it to get reco'd. Any legit machine shop can do it, probably cost $200-300, and everything will be straight and flat and gooly again. You can get all the gaskets you need in one pack. Once again, any good auto parts store should be able to help you there.

how much do you want to spend? and how long does it have to last?

I got my head gasket set for $35, but I would look at getting the head skimmed if you want the job too last.

At very lest flush the cooling system and put coolant in to stop the alloy for corroding again after

the less, the better because i just got the car today, and just want to get it running. where would the chepest place be in adelaide where i can pick my self up a headgasket, or get it installed?

Super cheap, was $19.50 and veale was $20.20 for just the head gasket.

as for install, get ready to get screwed over!!!! I'm thinking about 600-700 at a mechanic shop (well come to the world of cars)

if i was to take the head off, would this be a complicated procedure? would anything need to be reseted? and since my head hasnt cracker, would i beable to get a replacement from one that hasnt cracked instead of having to get it mechined?

your best bet, is to get the head straight off and take it down to a machinist and let them test it out and make sure its all good.

last time i had to change a 4k headgasket, the head was warped something crazy, but the machinist had a head they had just reconditioned on the shelf.

theres a good chance that if they don't have, they will get one from a wreckers for you.

actually taking off the head is quite easy, just undo all the bolts...the joys of pushrods. putting it on is a bit more fun with setting up the valve clearances.

if your not exactly sure what your doin, go get a workshop manual for like 30$ will tell ya exactly what to do, step by step.

good luck with it :)
