rollzilla Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Hello, corolla people i've got a 1986 ae82 corolla hatch just wondering what mods should it do? I've allready put a pod filter on it. I'm not sure where i should go next? I was thinking of doing the cams with cam gears and a piggy back computer. One more thing the cam covers are broken i've have taken them off will it effect the engine in any way? thank you and i love all your corolla's their awesome! Quote
irokin Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Exhaust? Thats where I'd be looking. How do you mean effect the engine? As in running? You need the cam covers on to run the engine! I suppose you could run it without the cam covers if you like cleaning up oil and engine bay fires... Quote
eviltwin Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 coming from me , ive owned my AE82 for 6 years and the first thing i would do is a full service including a radiator flush , new oil leads plugs coolant gearbox oil the works , if you can do it yourself it won't cost you much and it's worth every cent. You have to work out what you want from the car? if you want it to handle , be quick in a straight line etc etc . some 15" wheels with semi decent tyres and something along the lines of new springs or shockers or both will definatly help it , if your more into just a nice little cruiser whack some second hand king springs in it , leave your pod on and put a cat back system on it and just enjoy the car , it's a very open question without knowing what engine the car has etc etc. Quote
KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I'm assuming you mean cam covers as in the covers over the timing belt and cam gears. If so people do run without these just it leaves your timing belt open to rocks and the like flicking up into it possibly damaging it. Quote

I found using the standard airbox with a K and N filter was a lot better. Cut open the bottom of the cover, the part thats behind the crank pulley (you'll have to take the pulley of and while your at it check the keyway) cuts down on crap buildup. Be careful with the fingers as well.... Quote
tim.duncan Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Is your pod in its own enclosure? if not this is a must! because if your pod is just dangeling around in you engine bay all your doing is sucking in nasty HOT engine bay air. the myth that the original air filters are the main point of restriction is crap! the reason your pod gives you more power is you have removed the air box which is normally porly built in the eyes of those who want performance. So the next mod i would do is make a box for the pod and also plumb up a ram air intake from the frount of the air so your new box and pod are getting clean, freash, cold air from outside! check out www.autospeed.com as well as they have heaps of great ideas of mods you can do to your car Quote
