Hey,

Does anyone know what a good replacement would be for a KE55 carbie?

Mine pisses in fuel from the high speed jet all the time, so I decided I'd have a fresh start with a new one.

The can't cost that much surely.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Prolla not, that a standard carby on a 1.6l gemini.

When you take stock Asian carb off the k motor, there is a plate between that and the manifold. a hose is connected to it from the tappet cover. you need 2 of those plates for the nikki to fit as I'm pretty sure the throttle linkages hit the manifold

What changes do you have to make to a carbie for a 1.6l to run on a 1.3? Idle mixture? Float lvl? Or does it just give it more power and flood when you put your foot down?

Can I just get another one of those plates and whack it on the top and have the tappet connection free or is there more involved?

i just bolted it on, and ran it.. used less fuel then my stock 4k one cause it was busted... so it was a win for me..

I suppose you got lucky then! Went to the wreckers today but couldn't find anything that was suitable.

Just dismantled and dropped float level down on original, my power has been cut, thus I must be using less fuel?

Sick of getting shocking fuel economy! 25 litres/100km!

if its just a stock 4kc engine, i would pull the carburettor off, order a rebuild kit, dismantle the carburettor, clean everything with a toothbrush until its cleaner than your dinner plates, if there is ANY play in the throttle shafts then I would get them rebushed, and then I would carefully reassemble and reinstall it... probably get the best results rather than changing it and going to all that trouble. trust me, its not that hard to rebuild it.

oh and make sure when you pull the top cover off it you note where the ball bearings come from and remember to put them back in the same spot. Also, before taking each jet out, put the screwdriver on it, and tap it with a hammer quite hard, then undo the jet (they will come out without breaking/stripping).

make sure your spark plugs are good, and your points/distributor cap/leads are all good too. You should be getting well under 10lt per 100km ideally.

I've got a Nikki lying around that I was going to put in the KE55 before I sold it, never got around to it though.....missing a couple of screws which hold the air-horn down, but nothing that shouldn't be hard to fix. Looks like I'm local too  You can have it for the price of.....ohh, nothing I guess.
