hosedogg Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 hey just wondering if an rb30e will fit into a ke36 without modding the firewall? cheers Matt. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 no, definately not. Quote
hosedogg Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 i remember seeing a ke20 with an rb30et in it, so is it to long for the ke3x bay? Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 i remember seeing a ke20 with an rb30et in it, so is it to long for the ke3x bay? Firewall would most definitely have to be modified. A 1G barely fits in to a 3x/5x bay without modification, and the RB is a longer engine Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Do you own a tape measure!? Shouldn't be too hard to find a VL or R31 to see for yourself!! I'd imagine an RB30et would have about the same power output, if not less, than say an SR20DET. Which one of those 2 do you think will be more freindly towards your front suspension setup!? :) Its not just how much power/torque it put outs that you need to consider. Also other factors like "what do I want to use the car for"!!! :D Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Real Men Drive their RB powered KE's from the Back Seat  Quote
reTRD Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Real Men Drive their RB powered KE's from the Back Seat  hahaha i like it, well done that man good call. Quote
untubbed_20 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 It will be a dog, sr20 power maybe, but not sr torque!, it will turn the thing inside out in no time, without a full cage. Good for burnouts and drag racing, easy to loose when going sideways though, with the big pedulum up front cheers darren Quote
hosedogg Posted October 15, 2008 Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 if i had a tape measure i'd go open the bonnet on my vl turbo lol. but now decided be smarter to stick with a 4 cylinder. how much does it normally cost to get a 4age and in and running. like the all up total? cheers Matt. Quote
KE ping it real Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) If you do most of the work yourself (except wiring up & tuning), don't expect much change from $5000 if you go turbo as well maybe $6500 and if you get someone else to do all the work i reckon you'll be lookin at over $10k drive-away Edited October 15, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
hosedogg Posted October 15, 2008 Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 farout, didn't think it'd cost that much Quote
KE ping it real Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) It's the hidden costs that get you, they all add up Larger fuel lines & pump, surge tank, RWD conversion of the motor (cut n shut plenum e.t.c), custom mounts, T50 box, custom tailshaft, Larger radiator , Thermofan and then there is the wire up cost, the engineer cert All those things your looking at $2500-$3000 and if you notice i haven't included the actual engine yet or a computer so slap that on top and your up to probably $4000-$4500 And remember the only thing pro listed is the wiring & engineer so for that amount you would still need to do the actual install of every thing else yourself The reason i know is i'm going through the exact same transplant ATM except i'm also adding a turbo so mine's going to cost more Hidden costs are the killer of every engine conversion, The engine itself is the cheap part :P Edited October 19, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 You can fit a 1G in without firewall mods. I should know :) Quote
Killerolla Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 I remember seeing a ke30 with a rb20 on ebay and I'm pretty sure it didnt have the firewall modified but it did look like a tight fit so i don't think it would fit unless the rb20's and the 30s are the same size i have no idea not really into skylines. Go a 4age forged pistons and a hair dryer. Quote
olskool Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I would have to agree with KE Ping it real. I also am doing a 4age conversion to my car and every time I do something, another important thing pops up. Every time I give myself a finish date I never seem to meet it. So far I would have to say that my car has costed close to $5000, and I am nowhere near finished. If you are looking at doing an engine like the RB30, there will more than likely be more involved than what we are doing. Also, it will ruin the handling of your car. The front end will be heavy and it will feel very YUCK! ! ! ! Like most people have said, it matters what you want to use the car for. Quote
